Switching tags from collar to collar?

For those of you lucky dogs with multiple collars how do you change ID tags, dog license, and rabies tags from collar to collar? There has got to be an easier way than messing with putting the P.I.T.A. jump rings. Most of Pebs collars are the standard plastic buckle collars but I may be getting her a custom collar from collar mania for Christmas (yes, it will be here sooner than later...Hobby Lobby already has all their displays out.

Re: Switching tags from collar to collar?

You can use a chain repair link that screws together. These can be found at the hardware store or Tractor Supply.

Remember to use loctite on the threads (use the kind that you can take apart with standard hand tools) so there is no chance of link unthreading.

I have two sets of tags and they are attached to the leather collar with split copper rivets and burrs. I had to get the tags custom stamped and I got brass tags then went to the hardware store for the Copper Rivets and burrs (washers). The brass colored rivets that come with the tags are useless.. they expand in the base and are not a sure attachment. The copper rivets are split and burr is a washer, so when you spread the rivet it holds the burr against the leather and it takes a LOT to pull it thru. I have also used these to repair horse harness in a pinch until I can do a proper repair.

There are four tags. ID tag, Dog License, Rabies info and Micro chip info.

Blaze does not wear tags very often. just if we are far away from home or camping ect. I use a mountain climbing clip to clip them on when I do use them.

I use this. http://kamraskloset.com/TagIt.html It works great, and I love it! I accidently left it on his collar when he went in for training though, so I'll need to get a new one.

THANK YOU! This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! Now if only it were in stock. But that would be asking too much wouldn't it.

What about using a safety pin or fishing swivel?

Re: Switching tags from collar to collar?

Snoopy only has one collar, I see no point in having more than one unless you are all about fashion. lol But I could never see myself switching the tags all the time, he has 5 tags and they were hard enough to get on themselves. lol
