not that i don't LOVE cleaning up dog barf but...

My puppy has been throwing up on a pretty regular basis. It is really starting to worry me. It has been mostly stomach acidy looking, and she doesn't seem to be sick, but she does this throwing up almost daily. I called my vet and they said it could be because of the heat, or just something she does with an empty stomach. she has been eating and drinking normally and has not had any change in behavior, she just throws up every day.

the vet said i could give her some pepcid, which i haven't tried yet, but i was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this and what did you do?

I would like to know how many times a day she is eating???? has it been very hot where you are??? what kind of puppy???? and what kind of food???? and how old is the puppy????

I think that it is hard to address this question without that information

shes a 6 month old lab she gets fed in the morning and at night, she gets between 3.5 and 4 cups of food a day. she eats at a normal pace, poops right after meals, its been hot, but shes kept in a/c or with tons of fans, but i do take her out for her regular walks everyday which is two around the block (15 min) and one longer one (about 30-45 minutes)

ok first thing at six months I would feed her 3 - 4 times a day and you can feed smaller meals....

first a puppies nutritional needs are greater than their stomach capacity.... you might be feeding alot of food but she is puking it up so try smaller meals more often.... divide that food out.....

If it is very hot don't walk her as much as you are.... I know you want her to get exercise but take it easy..... if it is very hot.... go around the block so she can do her potties of just let her go pottie in the yard and come back in... it may just be to hot....

I would also try soaking her food to make it more digestible, so soak for about ten or fifteen minutes before you feed... that also might help.....

finally you can try crystalized ginger and that might help to settle her stomach instead of the pepcid....

good luck

My 8 month old labrador has recently started a similar pattern of vomiting her food at night. I've started her on a little bit of rice and chicken broth and will monitor her bowel movements. She's been off and on lethargic.

It's all just weird and worrisome.

Aww poor thing. Both you and the puppy. I have a lab that tends to throw up if she gulps her food to fast. In fact she just did yesterday night. I hope her stomach settles down for you

if you have not contact your vet you NEED TO. when a dog gets lethargic its a clear sign something is wrong

Is she vomiting bile in the mornings? Possibly it's "empty tummy syndrome". Feed her a snack (dog biscuits or part of her daily food portion) before bedtime, and see if that helps.

Re: not that i don't LOVE cleaning up dog barf but...

patt-i think you are right. she hasn't been throwing up food. its only been bile. its mostly a few hours before dinner and a few before breakfast...

i think i will try giving her the treat before bed. we sometime do that anyways after she gets her ear medicine (she gets a special greenie ).

i just brought her home from the vet thursday night. she got spayed on wednesday and microchipped. they told me to cut back on her food and activity for the first few days, and i have been doing that and she hasnt thrown up since shes been home

I'm glad to hear she is home and doing well after the spay. I would try Shalvas's suggestion, take her daily portion and divide it up into 3 or 4 feedings. Maybe when she gets older she will handle two feedings better. Good luck and keep us posted.
