Angry Yet another designer dog breed

It looks like the new "hot" designer dog in my area is a Chihuahua/ Pitbull mix. This is sickening.....Why would you want to breed these two very different breeds together?

I saw four last month in the shelter that got surrendered to the shelter buy a "breeder". I didn't think anything and thought maybe an accidental breeding. Then in the past two weeks I've had seven different families come into my work with there "new" designer puppies and young adult dogs. I think someone in my area is breed them and lining there pockets with lots of money from what I've heard from these families. They call them mini pitbull terriers. All of them were blue colored dogs which makes me think they are all from the same "breeder". They look like mini pitbulls and they say they don't get over 15lbs.

From what I've seen though they have the fearful personality of the Chi and shake like a leaf when in the store and the older ones get snappy towards strangers..... This is NOT good for the reputation of the APBT. It's sad.....I wish I could find out who the breeder is so I could give them a piece of my mind. If one of these dogs bites someone the headline will read "Pitbull or Pitbull mix attacks someone" the Chihuahua part wouldn't even be mentioned. I'm just so saddened and mad about the whole thing........

Not a good mix IMO.....but then again most of the designer breeds aren't the best of mixes anyway......... What goes though peoples minds?

Yeah, I told them to either get rid of the dog or themselves.

They chose the dog.

Re: Yet another designer dog breed

That is just insanely stupid. I'm not one who as an issue with responsible, working cross breeds. This is just mixing 2 totally different breeds for the sake of I don't know what. Maybe money or maybe because they are so cute. They are not mini Pit Bulls they are Pit Bull mixes, that does not even make sense (that they'd be call Mini Pits?). Small pure bred Pit Bulls would be "mini pit bulls" if people wanted to call them that, although its usually the bybs who do. There is another breeder who calls them Piranhas. If they do not even act like Pits I certainly wouldn't call them mini Pit Bulls. I've only met a couple, it was a few years ago and not a designer thing done on purpose. I can't believe some people think it is so great. Have you had any of the Pit/Boston mixes?

Oh, come on Inga, where is your sense of discovery! Comfort Rottweilers! For those who want the Rott look without the Rott itself! Or maybe, a Rottweiler that meats the size requirements for an apartment...or....you get the idea.

*bangs head on desk and sighs*

I don't even want to think about what kind of temperments these dogs will have...why would anyone in their mind want to breed that mix? I would think they'd have a hard time finding homes...not many people like Chis or Pitties.

Re: Yet another designer dog breed

Isn't there a chance of death during delivery for the female chi to birth such big babies? I mean a 5 lb chihuahua vs. a 50? lb pit? Unless the mom is a pit then i don't know how the chihuahua could've gotten up there

I know puppies arnt born massive, but a chihuahua is a very teenee tinee dog. I think my friends small dog mated with a GSD and had to have a c section
