I saw a Dobe.....

Yesterday I went to donate some food to the local "no-kill" shelter (they are limited intake for owner surrenders, but do have the city AC contract, and claim that they don't PTS "adoptable" animals, but.....), and decided to visit the animals while I was there. In the Stray Dog room, there was a good-looking liver (is that what it's called? Or chocolate? Anyway, not black and tan) Dobe. He/she (I didn't look) had ears that had clearly been cropped, but they flopped over like an uncut Dobe's ears. It looked terrible. Is this because the owners hadn't properly taped the ears, or does this just happen sometimes? Unfortunately, he/she will probably be PTS if the owners don't come in, because the dog was lunging at me and growling, and I was 5 feet away. Poor dog. Anyway, my question was about the ears. I have never seen cropped ears that looked like that. A little droopy, yes, but never totally flopped.

Probably a red dobe Yes, a poor crop and/or poor aftercare can cause the ear not to stand.

Sounds like they were cropped, just weren't posted correctly or for a great enough length of time.

Re: I saw a Dobe.....

I wish I had a picture to post of my dobe we had when I was growing up. We had his ears cropped when he was little and sadly he was allergic to the tape they used. His got a really bad infection in his ears, it was horrible. His ears dropped after that. So they were cropped but folded over just like it would have been before they were cropped. Something like that might have happend to that dobe.
