Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

I always fail these things miserably.

No matter how i answer the questions I can't get "Shelter Mutt" anywhere near the top.

ETA: Mine were VERY similar to French Ring's. s/he must be a cool person

There is a first time for everything, I guess. I think it has to do with this one leaving out certain categories of questions that tend to throw the other ones off. Allergies immediately put poodles at the top, irrespective of any other considerations. There is usually no option for 'barely allergic to dogs.' Then there are just strange categorizations. One dog finder survey (dogtime.com)--excluded Shibas from my list because I wanted a 'smart' dog! Shibas don't study quantum mechanics in their spare time like Border Collies, but I always considered them to be pretty clever. They aren't good at following orders, but they excel at escaping, for example.

This is a huge defect of all of these surveys. I never get 'Abandoned puppy that follows you home' either, which is how I got two of the best dogs I ever knew.

Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

I'm a mutt girl through and through. My animals are always rescues, and I prefer mixed breed dogs mostly because others don't (and also because of a diminished risk of genetic disorders--though I'd rescue from a puppy mill closure or research lab in a heartbeat).

Being a mutt girl led me to a cute little ACD mix named Zoe (see avatar) when I specifically sought a dog who was NOT part ACD or Border Collie (my lifestyle's a little tame for high energy breeds). It's working out well, and I love my girl x a million. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not sure breed matters much to me. I'll find a way to make it work with any dog I'm dealt. Here's the list, though.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 97%
English Cocker Spaniel 97%
Havanese 97%
American Cocker Spaniel 96%
Field Spaniel 96% <-CUUUTTTEEE
Glen of Imaal Terrier 96%
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever 96%
Toy Fox Terrier 96%

I can't say any of the above are my favorite breeds (I love me some hound dogs and herders). I'd live with any of the above and probably learn to love them as much as my current favorites.

Next group:

American Eskimo Dog (Miniature) 95%
American Eskimo Dog (Standard) 95%
American Eskimo Dog (Toy) 95%
Brittany 95% <---LOVE
Bulldog 95%
English Springer Spaniel 95%
Keeshond 95%
Papillon 95%

If I said I didn't have a little crush on Brittanies and English Springer Spaniels, I'd be a liar. I'm not sure what's up with all of the long and shaggy coats. I lived with and loved a corgi mix for 8 years, so I looove some shaggy dogs... but Zoe's easy coat has really tipped the scale toward short coats.

Next group:

Staffordshire Bull Terrier 95% <--CUTE
Whippet 95%
Beagle 94%
Bichon Frise 94%
Italian Greyhound 94%
Japanese Chin 94%
Miniature Schnauzer 94%
Pembroke Welsh Corgi 94% <--ALL CORGIS MAKE ME HAPPY INSIDE

I used to live with a corgi mix, and she made me love them forever.

Pug 94%
Saluki (or Gazelle Hound) 94%
Samoyed 94%
Smooth Fox Terrier 94%
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier 94%
Chinese Crested Dog 93%
Dalmatian 93%
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen 93%

I find salukis darn attractive. Dalmation??? Really?

Poodle (Miniature) 93%
Shetland Sheepdog 93% <-Love!
Welsh Springer Spaniel 93%
West Highland White Terrier 93%
Australian Shepherd 92% <-Love (but probably not for me)!
Border Terrier 92% <-used to want
Boston Terrier 92% <-almost adopted a mix and have liked ever since
Cardigan Welsh Corgi 92% <--my favorite corgis! LOVE the tail. All corgis should keep the tail. My mix had a beautiful corgi tail

That group was a little more in my usual gushy territory.

Norwich Terrier 92%
Polish Lowland Sheepdog 92%
Poodle (Toy) 92%
Siberian Husky 92%
Sussex Spaniel 92%
Tibetan Spaniel 92%
Tibetan Terrier 92%
Wire Fox Terrier 92%

I like all dogs, but this wasn't really a very "me" group. Where the heck are my hounds?!

*skipping a few groups because they're not saying what I want them to *

Maltese 90%
Manchester Terrier (Standard) 90%
Miniature Bull Terrier 90%
Parson Russell Terrier 90%
Scottish Terrier 90%
Afghan Hound 89%
Australian Cattle Dog 89%
Basset Hound 89%

YAYYYY ACD AND BASSET HOUND! YAYAaYYYYY

Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

Ok this is getting a little weird--I got Shiba Inu again on the k9Country.com survey. I freely admit my answers were influenced on some level by my interest in that breed but I really was answering the questions according to what I am looking for in a dog--I wasn't at all surprised to see it in the list, just that it was the only 100% match.

Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

A.P. test is pretty highly flawed if for no other reason than it doesnt ask specifically about shedding, guard dog tendencies, etc.

Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

WOW! I was surprised to find out that Rottweiler's are so well matched to me. LOL I found on some other tests that they were not perfectly compatible with me. I liked this test. It also said Dobermans and Giant Schnauzers and Bouviers were good matches. All breeds I would consider. What a surprise. I love it.

Re: Dog breed selector whats your results

Here are my results for the K9country selector (edited them a bit...took the 90% compatibilities and made the 100% if I was willing to bend on the issue that they weren't compatible):

Collies (Smooth) - Match!
German Shepherd Dogs - Match!

Hound Group
Basset Hounds - Match!
Chart Polski - Match!

Ibizan Hounds - Match!
Pharaoh Hounds - Match!
Whippets - Trouble with Children

Non-Sporting Group

Bulldogs - Match!
Boston Terriers - Match!
Keeshonden - Match!
Shiba Inu - Match! (Ya, right. Why does this dog have the only probably being "size", but the Shar-Pei have issues with Children and trianing?)

Sporting Group
Retrievers (Chesapeake Bay) - Match!
Pointers - Match!
Retrievers (Curly-Coated) - Match!
Retrievers (Labrador) - Match!
Spaniels (Clumber) - Trouble with Grooming
Vizslas - Match!

Toy Group
Pugs - Match! (What, no trouble with shedding, just size?)

Working Group
Akitas - Match!
Bernese Mountain Dogs - Match!
Great Danes - Match!
Mastiffs - Match!
Rottweilers - Match!
Boxers - Match! (Oh, I get "trouble with training" with this dog, but not a Shiba? Phhhhh.)
Bullmastiffs - Match!
Doberman Pinschers - Match!
Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs - Match!
Saint Bernards - Match!
Newfoundlands - Match!

Methinks I'm a working group gal.
