| Max's Health Woes Continue I just dropped Max off at the vet. He started throwing up again this morning and by the time I picked him up at the house he had thrown up 6 times and then he did it again in the car. He also threw up his medication. I called the vet and his Dr. who saw him on Tuesday is in surgery all day long and is off tomorrow, so they had me drop Max off and the Dr. is going to try and see him between surgeries. The nurse said that he will evaluate him and he might have to have x-rays, but she gave me no indication of what might be wrong with him.
He seemed to be doing okay Tuesday afternoon and all day yesterday. I could tell he was still a little lethargic and his appetitie hadn't returned fully, but he did eat and was moving around better. I just wish I knew what was wrong with him. I gave him an interceptor tablet (for worms and heartworms) yesterday evening. Do you think that might have caused his relapse? I'm just so worried about him. I want to know what's wrong with him and how we can get him better, but I don't even know when the vet is going to call me. Please keep Max in your thoughts and prayers. I'll update as soon as I hear something.
Okay..Update...
Just spoke to the vet and he's going to run a parvo test and do x-rays. He didn't give me any info besides that. Oh, please don't let it be parvo or anything serious. Please keep Max in your prayers and thoughts. He's a sick little pup.

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue Another update. 10:53..
They tested him for Parvo twice and each time it came back slightly positive. The vet thinks that's from his vacination on Saturday however, and not actually parvo. He did say that there is a small chance it is, but more than likely not.
Max does have something in his stomach but he can't tell if it's his dinner from last night or a foreign body. He is giving him something called "valian" that is a white chalkly substance that will coat his intestines and stomach and then they are going to do more xrays. My poor baby. |

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue I was always told that 2 weeks after the parvo shot, they stil come up positive, because of the shot. Chance showed slightly positive when they sent him homr, but it was from his shot.
Kody had the same chalky stuff when he swallowed glass. Sounds TO ME (I am NOT a vet) like a foreign body that is body is trying to get rid of.
You'd know if it was parvo. The puke STINKS like eggs, is yellowish, foamy, and they WILL have bloody diarrhea. You havent mentioned diarrhea, so that keeps me hopeful its just something he needs to pass.
Good luck, keep us posted, and give him a hug for me. |

Good luck, keep us posted, and give him a hug for me. | Thanks Jenn. Max did have a yellowish vomit this morning. It looked like gross egg yolks to me. He also had a loose stool. However, I think the vet feels the same way you do because he said normally the diarhea is the first symptom and they have a lot of it, then the vomiting starts. With Max it's been the opposite. Plus his stool wasn't bloody. Either way I just wish I knew what is was and how we can get him better. Not knowing how he is doing or what is wrong with him is killing me. |

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue Have him do a ultrasound for soft obstruction. This would be a sock or something like that but would not show up on a xray. It only would show up either by bowel back up gasses or exploratory surgery..
In our thoughts and prayers. |

I can relate to the frustration of not knowing what is wrong. When Riley was sick back in Feb. it was tough not only seeing him feeling sick...but also not knowing what was causing the problem. He dropped 6 pounds that week(a lot for a growing puppy), and just wasn't himself. I got almost no sleep that week. I hated not only seeing him not eat(and not passing bowel movements), but that he continued to dry heave for no apparent reason(he would wake up from sleeping, and just start dry heaving right in front of you). That upset me the most. Multiple x-rays, and an ultrasound later showed no obstruction. So they ended up treating him with I.V. fluids over a course of a few days. We still don't know what happened to make him sick(my vet thinks something sharp he ate inflammed his intestines, making him have obstruction like symptoms), he just finally got better.
I hope they figure out what is wrong with Max. I know I don't have to ask, but please keep us updated.

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue Thanks for the support guys. Still no update from the vet. I can hardly focus at work I'm so worried.
Borzoi...I'll check with the vet on the ultrasound. Unfortunatley, I have to wait for him to call me because he is treating Max inbetween several surgeries he had scheduled for today.
R.C. How scary to not know what was going on with Riley. I hope they figure it out with Max soon. I know what you mean about when they get sick in front of you. You just feel so helpless. I'm starting to think maybe I shouldn't have kids because if this is how I react over my dogs getting sick I can't imagine what I would do if it was my child? but then again is there really a difference?
I'll update again as soon as I hear something.
Bad news regarding Max. I just got off the phone with the vet and he still has something in his stomach. They don't know what it is. He threw up the balarium they gave him. We are going to take him to a specialist tomorrow in Dublin and they are going to perform an endoscopy on him to see what the issue is. Hopefully, he just ate something and they can pull it out. The vet warned me that there is a possibilty that he has a herniated stomach. I guess in the xrays the barium that they gave him was showing up by his chest cavity and the Dr. said that was really high and shouldn't be there. If that's the case he would require surgery and that can range from 1500-3000 dollars just for the surgery and he would have to go to another specialist.
I'm just so worried and upset right now. I don't know how we are going to come up with the money to cover all these expenses, but there's no way in h**l that I am going to put him to sleep just because I can't cover his bills. Plus my mom just lectured me and told me off for taking time off work to get Max to the vet and for struggling with his bills. She acted like "well if its going to cost you that much just put him to sleep" WTF!!! He is my responsiblity and I will take care of him, but there is no way I am going to put him to sleep. Not if he can possibly be saved. I just can't stop shaking and I'm crying at work. My poor baby. I can't lose him and I can't stand the thought of him being in pain and sick! I'm going in to the vet's in an hour to look at his xrays and to get all the information on the specialist.
Please please pray for us and send Max all your best and positive thinking. He needs them very much.

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue I'm really sorry and I hope it doesn't turn out to be a herniated stomach. Money wise, you could look into Care Credit, that's what a friend of mine did with a $3200 vet bill. Keep us posted, hugs to you and Max. |

The vet recommended care credit as well and we are looking into it.
Max has an appointment with the specialist at 11 tomorrow. My poor boy has been vomiting almost constantly since I got him home. He can't even keep water down and he's had 2 cases of diarhea. The vet is know concerned that he might also have parvo as they can't get a conclusive test one way or the other. His blood work shows that his white blood count is okay which is a sign in his favor since parvo usually makes it zero, but with his other complicaitons they can't rule it out. The second vet to see him today also thinks the liklihood of a herniated stomach is high. I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow. I've got to go though because I can hear Max vomiting again. Please pray for us. |

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue OH NO! I am just seeing this now Does he have a foreign object in his intestines?
The yellow foam.......... bullies do this in the morning normally sometimes, although with Max since he is sick it very well could be because he has something foreign in his intestines.
When a bullie is acting normal with the exception of yellow foam in the am bullie parents suggest a treat before bed and it will take care of that in the morning. It is an acid build up in their empty stomachs and the next am they tend to puke it up.

Also, try giving him some pedialyte, that might help him. Sometimes they will drink that before water.
Please keep us informed. We will all be saying prayers for Max over at the bullie forum.
Also, is his stomach swollen Kristen? Try giving him cooked rice and lean ground beef boiled and drained with the rice and see if that helps as well. I would only give him a little at a time of it. Is his stool showing any mucus or blood? That along with a rather sickening sweet smell to it can be Parvo, but there is a swab test the vet can do to verify that immediately. Also, plain yogurt can help his upset stomach.
Please keep us informed. I posted a prayers post on the bullie forum for you and Max.

| Re: Max's Health Woes Continue I have a dog that had been very active, friendly and jovial. One morning, it behavior changed and it remained lying for most of the morning. At about mid-day when I was considering taking it to a veterinary nurse, a visiting friend proposed that I should give it some natural products I was using. Waooh, this gave my pet a quick release from its malaise and since then I use these for it's health problems. Try these for yourselve and see how the results will be. |
