| Boxer question Where does the name BOXER come from? My dog is a boxer mix and uses his front paws like they were hands. So Im was wondering if this is where they get their name from? I tried looking if up but was unable to find any information on it. Does anyone know? |

| From what I've heard, Boxers way back when were fighting dogs. The name "Boxer" came from it's tendencies to have a "punchy" fighting style (jumping up "punching" with front paws). Obviously nowadays, Boxers are a lot less fiesty, and more hyper and bouncy than anything.
Don't quote me on that, just what I've heard, I could be wrong! LOL |

| Since we are talking boxers. An x friend of mine went out and bought 2 boxers( male & female) for breeding. They are now 7 and 8 months old and are very fearful, if you go up to them they both run and growl, with hair up.I tryed telling her, that most likly they will end up biting out of fear, that they will be NO protection for her cause if any one was to break in they would run and any one that really knows dogs, would not want to buy a pup out of them. She thinks it's funny and that i'm full of sh** there is no talking to her about this. Could i be over reacting? I really do not know much about boxers. |

Maybe you should suggest she consult a professional before she makes a mistake that can't be undone. The dogs could just be going through a fear stage - the age is about right.
Out of curiousity, where did she buy them from? Is the breeder going to mentor her in her breeding program? |

| I know she bought them from to different breeders, as far as her listening to anyone forget it. That's why we are x friends. She's right everybody else is wrong. I can pretty much tell ya the out come of this one.One if not both of the dogs will bite and they both will be put down.(sad) Iv'e seen it before with her. I hope the dogs are just going threw being fearful and will get better(for the dogs sake) |

| I think one of the hardest things to bear in educating is when our own family or friends won't listen to us. I've always had better luck getting through to people outside of family and friends. It also becomes difficult to keep from saying "I told you so" when it all falls apart for them. |

| the information in that link was real helpful. i didnt realize boxers had so much character. a friend of mine that is graduating vet school this spring also informed me about health problems boxers get while growing up. im hopeing that my dog wont be so prone to all the health risks since he is a mixed boxer. boxer, german shepard and something else that i cant really tell right now. but boxer and shepard are his biggest mix. hes real smart and learns fairly fast, hes just in the wanting to bite your hands all the time stage. hes gotten over the foot biteing and is now mostly biteing hands. he starts school this weekend. so im hopeing it helps him grow smarter. |
