DNA breed ID results are in on Lucy!!

I did the cheek cell DNA test on Lucy just for fun. The first two breeds were no big surprise, but the 3rd and 4th were. They sent me an email yesterday (certificate to follow by mail) with the 4 most prevalent breeds, in order of most to least. Here is what they said

1) Australian Shepherd
2) German Shepherd
now this is where things get interesting ...
3) Rhodesian Ridgeback
and last but not least--the funniest discovery ...
4) BASSETT HOUND

Here is Lucy

I did this just for fun. It's been great conversation with all my friends

Is that the test that won't work on a pure bred dog?

I don't know about how it would work with a purebred dog. I guess you'd have to ask them. I got my kit through www.mojopet.com and I sent the sample to Biopet Lab in Colorado.

I knew she was from herding breed stock of some kind, but I didn't know which breed(s). It's nice to be able to know which ones. She resembles an Aussie a lot and I can see a smidgen of G Shep in her face. I looked at some Rhod Ridgeback pictures today and I can even see some of that in her ... but the Bassett ... I don't see that at all. It was probably a 10th cousin or something. I've been walking around my building at work with a picture of Lucy and telling people to check out my Bassett Hound, lol.

And, she passed her CGC testing last evening with flying colors. Not bad for a recent shelter dog adoptee with no previous training before the class she just finished. I don't mean to brag, but she is just the BEST dog!!!!!
