Question Don't understand this dog attact

My dogs are sisters that are 1 year apart. The oldest is nibbles and the younger is squirt.Nibbles cut her leg on a walk we were on and had to have sticthes in her leg.The Dr sadated her. While we were there I had their shots updated.Everything was fine till I got them home.I let Squirt out of the car and had to help Nibbles out because she could hardly walk.
As soon as I got Nibbles out of the car,Squirt attacted her.I had to throw a blanket over Squirt and tackel her to the ground.
I don't understand why Squirt would attact her sister when she knew that nibbles wasn't up to par.In the last 5 years they have only had 2 fights with each other. This was nothing more than an attact by squirt on her sister that was almost defenseless.I'm in contact with a trainner to see if we can figure out what the problem is.If anyone has an ideal about what might be going on please respond to this post.I'm very, very concerned about this.

Re: Don't understand this dog attact

I have seen this happen before when a dog comes home from the vet (cats too). There must be scents on the one coming home that trigger an aggressive response, or maybe they just don't recognize the smells. It can also be that sometimes animals will attack another animal that shows sickness or weakness. But I really am betting that it was the unfamiliar smells from the vet hospital that triggered the aggressive response.

As long as you don't continue to have issues you should be Ok.

Did you ever find out what triggered off the last two fights?

Re: Don't understand this dog attact

Happens with cats also- or horses for that manner. I think the meds make them smell different and the animals react to it. In general I keep mine separate for a few days before I let them come together again under supervision. Check what the trainer says

Seems if there is a history, there is a real problem, not just a situational one. I recommend the OP seek professional guidance, especially with someone who is familiar with bully dogs. If this is an onset of "gameness" issue you need to go into management mode immediately.
