Can pets bring in allergies to people?

My daughter has been having allergies for the last couple weeks. You know, the sneezing, watery eyes thing. My mom said that the dog could be bringing in the allergies from being outside and maybe touching things outside and then giving it to my daughter. The dog has slept with her for a couple years now.

What do you think?

I think its very possible. What is she allergic to?

But this is allergy season, and there are alot of pollutants in the air and anyone can be bringing it in on their clothes or when she goes outside or when a door or window is opened.

Yes, very likely it's contributing.

But allergies are bad now regardless of if, dog brings it in, or it's just floating in the air.

Even though I have two hypo-allergenic dogs, I have found, keeping their hair cut short helps, as they don't collect as much pollen.

There are often two or three or more dog type allergies.
1) Coats
2) Saliva
3) What the dogs pick up in their exterior enviornment.

Actually their coat has nothing to do with it, its their dander. Every dog has a different kind of dander so a person could be allergic to dog A which is a golden retriever but would be fine with dog B which is also a golden retriever.

Does your daughter take allergy pills or shots? If not I would take her to the doctor and get a referal for a allergy doctor to have her tested and see if they think she needs pills or shots. When I was younger I need both a pill and a shot but now I only need the shot every couple of months.

As far as her allergies go, this has been the first time that she has had it (the last week or two). Our dog's hair is cut short right now (my daughter did it). I did see that the allergy count is suppose to be high today but I don't know the excuse for the last couple days or so.

Has your daughter ever been to an allergy doctor to say for sure she has allergies and to see what she is allergic to? If not I'd do what I said earlier about going to your regular doctor and getting a referral for the allergy doctor so they can test her and perscribe her medicine or shots if she needs it.

No she hasn't been to a allergy doctor yet. Kind of waiting to see if this will go away.

More likely than not your daughter's threshhold has been crossed, and is now showing symptoms of allergens. There was a segment on the news recently about a definite increase in patients going to the dr. due to allergy symptoms, and, those who were currently on allergy meds needing an adjustment on medication, as current meds weren't taking care of it. Certainly, the dog's coat could contain pollen, but, if your child goes outside, she's going to be subjected to the same pollens.

Well now we think she got back to back colds. She says she feels better today so we are going to hold for now. She isn't a child. She is a college student.

Thanks for all your inputs.
