I finally bought a small kiddie-pool for the dogs to use. Today was our first really warm day of the year, and boy, did Holly put it to use! She LOVES it! She actually dunks her head completely under the water, and blows bubbles... I've never seen a dog do that before. She is one happy, tired puppy tonight!

What fun! We'll never be without a doggie pool. Our pooch loves it -- really helps her deal with the heat.

I love those kiddie pools for the dogs, too! They love to go into the actual swimming pool, but chlorine does a number on their coats if I don't give them a bath with shampoo right after. So, the kiddie pool is great. . .when they use it! (in the summer, they prefer the sofa in AC comfort, but are banned to the kitchen after the pool)!

Pools are the favorite pastime here too! I catch a perch in the pond and set it free for the girls to catch their own bounty...It is fun for me to watch and yummy and nutritious for them

I'm getting a kiddie pool for my dog soon. More than anything I want a place for him to cool down on those hot summer days, other than the house. Where did you all get your kiddie pools and about how much were they.

What a great idea digitsmama! I too want to get a pool for the pups this summer. But I hadn't thought of feeding them their dinner in it too!

The only place i could find the cheap plastic kiddie pools was Walmart. And they don't fit in the truck of a car, or even in the back of my Honda CR-V "SUV". Someone else on here suggested the big troughs they use to water horses, available at Farm Supply stores. They run a lot more (~$100) but should last a long long time. Don't forget that since the water is not treated all sorts of nasties will grow and breed in the water, change it often.

I got mine at Bi-Mart for about $6. I've seen them at places like K-Mart, Toys-R-Us, Target. I got a small one, about 4-feet diameter, but they make larger ones, too. Not deep enough to actually swim in, but she splashes, drinks, lays, rolls, has a great time!

my dogs have a blast in the pools but after 24-48hrs they always end up chewing a hole in it one way or another.

The horse water troughs are great (we had them back home big enough I could get down in it, maybe 3 ft deep) Some of them are as old as me and they still have them, so even though they can be expensive, they will last at least 20 years

Kiddie pools are about $10 at Wallyworld.

We payed $5 for Shunka's at the dollar store, I'm sure if you went to Saver's you could get one for cheaper. I know all dogs love pools. xD

I need a bigger one...the kiddie pool is just enough for Watson to sleep in. He needs one big enough to actually swim in. Now, where to get one that he won't destroy with his monster toenails

Anyone to think to look at farm auctions etc (I know, not feasible for the city folk to find places like that) but I'm sure they sell off all kinds of stuff like the metal water troughs etc...could find a real bargain! Craigslist also has some in the "farm supply" area...

Also, another one that's great is old bathtubs! We used them for feeders for our horses...you can always decorate it up so it doesn't look like a redneck lawn ornament!

I wasn't looking for one, but saw one at Pertsmart Saturday and bought it for $7.99. Chloe can't get in it by herself (yet)... my daughter sat in it and we put Chloe in and she LOVED it! Another great idea from DF! She was playing for a full hour, and thankfully it was a nice 80 degrees here.

She didn't try to chew it either... just lapped up the water and played around. It was so fun to watch.

The fish thing sounds kinda funny.

Do they really eat it up? Or do they just chew on it for a bit? Kasha has not dared to enter water yet.. So I'm a little worried. Those pools at walmart are cheap enough. And they have different sizes. From 6 bucks for a small one. To a 15 dollar behemoth.

Sorry, but I raise koi, and they are part of the family too. Watson drinks from the pond and the fish come over to see him, and he likes watching them too.

oops sorry...

Thing is..My girls are on raw diets...so..they eat the fish regardless if I feed them to them or they catch it themselves....

Also...They are Terriers and have the hunting instinct built in to where this helps them "work" and I think its a good thing..

I catch fish and fry them up from my pond...so...i dont see the diff?

These are talipia and sunfish that are over running my pond...which is screwing up the livelihoods of other species inhabiting there....So for another plus...The girls are helping maintain the ecosystem..

These are not exotic fish that I call family...they are just fish from a pond that have no names...My pet fish live inside with me in thier cozy aquariums.

I understand the raw diet and all, but letting the dogs eat fish alive...*shiver* I guess it's just the circle of life Good source of protein at least.
