Take your pick, neither of them are listening anyway.

What the hell does "DH" mean?... I swear the English language is in a downward spiral.

Hehe. Well, I am going to be posting a similar thread, from the perspective of the boyfriend, so I'd love any advice you care to share.

Look for the title "Training my girlfriend"

Best,
Sid

I asked the same thing a while ago (only in a slightly calmer way).

Dear Husband or Dumber Half, depending on your mood.

No Question about it, the first step to training your dog, is training the family!

Sid
Wife's gone for the week-end, I'm on the honor system and on a stay command. You are still in the BF status, Run, I'm lost forever I'm in the DH program. You still have hope. Oh! Oh! I do feel a Brewski urge, I'm gone, you are on your own.

Get a divorce!!! No just kidding, I realize how frustrating this must be. What about making a list and then copying it and putting it up everywhere around the house so all members of the family will have it drilled into their heads at all times?

Re: I'm gonna freaking kill my DH!

Gosh my family is the same way. I tell them they have to say sit as they are doing the hand signal but they say "sit down Snoopy" and Snoopy gives them a weird look and runs away. lol Or they say "Snoopy come" when the command is "come here Snoopy". My grandma doesn't understand why I paid for obedience class and I tell her for socialization and training and she rolls her eyes and says its a bunch of bull.

Our neighbor is the same way. She tells her dog to come in a hateful tone and when the dog doesn't listen she runs up to it stomping her fight and yells in a really angry and scary voice "precious, get your a** over her now!". I told her that she has to say it in a happy tone and said a dog doesn't want to come to a angry screaming person but then she talks about how her drunk abusive bf gets the dog to do anything he wants. But thats because he hits the dog so the dog is scared of him.

Actually that is a good argument for teaching the commands without the name. Sadie will sit if you say "Sit", "Sadie, Sit", or "Sit Sadie". It's the Sit she responds to.

Re: I'm gonna freaking kill my DH!

Well I say Snoopy's name to get his attention first but maybe he thinks the command is "snoopy sit" not "sit".

Re: I'm gonna freaking kill my DH!

just a thought, it might help if you tape a big notice to the front door like "DON"T OPEN THIS DOOR UNLESS THE DOG IS UNDER CONTROL"

I threatened my SO to go buy an expensive baby gate if he couldn't stop letting him out. It solved the problem for a while but he's slipping. i guess because we're getting a baby gate anyway lol time to up the ante! how about everytime he lets the dog out i get to buy new shoes

Nah, if he slips you buy shoes, purse and 5 new expensive toys for your dog.

Actually, I was thinking of that! I would put something like:

"If someone's at the door, and Lucy is barking:
1) Use her name, and the command "NO!" in a firm tone.
2) Tell her to "Come!"
3) Put her in the den, and SHUT THE DOOR.
4) Answer the door.
5) When the door is shut again, let her out of the den.

Seriously. I had to do it for Holly, to get them to take her to potty when she was let out of her crate during house-training.

sigh.

I guess not everyone is as quick to understand dogs as others.

sighhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Re: I'm gonna freaking kill my DH!

Same situation here. Things I had done to correct our English Springer Spaniel were not carried out by my hubby. The worst thing he did was give bits of food from his dinner at the table then yelled at him when he would sit and beg. DUH! I explained to him he was giving mixed signals. Rewarding him for sitting and begging then yelling at him for sitting and begging. I told my husband I was going to get a remote collar and use it on him (the hubby). What do you think? Should I set it on #10?
