| Oinest is like Mr. Ed ok, he doesn't talk...yet.
just a little story (out of many) for those of you who insist i'm just a newbie enthralled with my dog, and there are a ton of pooches just like him.
i went to Blockbuster tonight for my daughter.
i parked in front of the door of the store, so oinest could see me.
when i came out, i had to laugh...he looked so funny, the way he sits in the front seat, with a very human look.
the car next to me had a man and 2 girls who were laughing at him.
then as i was entering my car, a woman in the car next to me rolled down her window.
she said i would be amazed at how every one who came out of the store was admiring my dog.
and when her husband comes out, she is going to tell him:
THIS DOG WAS SO INCREDIBLE, I CANNOT BELIEVE HE IS REAL !

That's nice that people were admiring your dog. |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Well, I have to say that I don't see how this story relates to Mr. Ed. I also don't see how this shows that you're not simply enthralled with your dog. I've gotten stopped by admirers of Lucy her whole life. She loves to sit in the driver's seat when I go on a quick errand, too.
Most of us here on this forum are enthralled with our dogs. I cannot believe how beautiful, graceful, smart and empathetic Lucy is. I marvel at her all the time, as do my friends and family.
I will say, though... oinest looks like he's got some very soft, clean, luxurious fur on him! |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed I'm fascinated with just about every dog I meet. So there's nothing unique in this.
I'd also like to think that ever dog is incredible, and would get a reaction equal to your dog. Nothing unique about this either.
What is unique is the love you have for your dog, and nothing any of us say can take that away. Being reminded of this bond is a lesson I care to learn every day. |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Well everyone is always amazed with my dogs. But I think that has a lot to do with the doberman sterotypes. They are always impressed with how sweet and well trained my dogs are. And after being on this forum for a few months, I quickly realize my dogs are nothing amazing. I can't even imagine what would happen if I told them to get me a beer out of the fridge.
My dogs are not extraordinary, they have just had an extraordinary life. And I'm not saying that to be cocky. But I cater to my dogs, instead of having them cater to me. I hear people say, "They'll eat when I let them to eat." and thinks of that nature. I do everything I can to make sure all of their needs are met, and I think that shows in how they are percieved by the public.
But just a secret between me and you Dog-man. Every good owner has extraordinary dogs, just because every good owner gives their dogs the chance to be what they are meant to be. I am sure that Oinest is truely one of a kind.
Even Ollie in her short time on Earth, has already proved to me that she is one in a million. And no one is going to tell me different. |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Well Dog-man, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but....if Molly was near Oinest, he wouldn't get any attention because she is amazing - everyone loves her. Sadly, you will never know what it is like to have a dog like mine. No matter what you say about Oinest - he just cannot compare. I challenge you to a dog off! http://youtube.com/watch?v=5kzS6IU2pWk |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Well, oinest does look cute sitting in the car, but, you really haven't told us why he's so incredible and out of the ordinary!
I'll share a few stories of my (Standard) Poodles with you.
Maddy and Beau were with me in the car when I pulled into the gas station. A cop pulled in behind me, got out of his vehicle and walked up to my car, leaning over to look inside my car. He started laughing, and it took him awhile to tell me what was so funny. He stated that he was behind me and observed what looked like "furtive" behavior by the two people sporting Afros in the back seat (heads lowering, then up again). He said he really didn't know until he was able to see them up close that they were dogs, not people! LOL
My best friend, Rebecca, called last night, suggesting that we go out to Woody's on the beach this weekend. It has great food, good music, and a fun place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon, or a Friday night. We set a time to meet, then hung up. She called me right back to add, "Oh, and bring the Poodles. I'm broke." ROFL Whenever we have Maddy and Beau with us we draw a crowd, and people just can't seem to buy us enough drinks! The Poodles start offering behaviors that they've learned will get them laughs, attention, and good food! They are ambassadors for their breed, as they have changed a lot of people's opinions and beliefs about Standard Poodles.
I had to call work one night to tell them I'd be late, because I couldn't find my keys (always left in a dish on the table by the front door). My daughter had my spare, and wasn't answering her phone! In desperation, I asked Maddy to find my keys, not really expecting that she would, because when I ask her to bring me my keys, she gets them out've the dish on the table, but, they weren't there. Fast forward: as I was on the phone letting work know that I wasn't coming in at all, when there came Maddy . . .with my keys! I have no clue why they weren't in the dish, or where she found them, but find them she did!
She and Beau will also bring guests a beer or soda from the 'fridge, find the remote for me, bring me the phone when it rings, help with bringing groceries in from the car, put some of them away, take the garbage out, put their toys away, and make me smile when I've had a hard day!
Maddy and I perform Canine Freestyle Dance for the kids in shelter, and for patients at an adult daycare center once a month.
Beau is a Book Buddy for kids in a program to encourage reading.
Tell us what oinest does to make him so remarkable!
Oh, I almost forgot to add that they're my heroes, pulling me inside the house from the back yard, and bringing me the phone so I could call for help after a fall in which I broke my leg and ankle!

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Not sure about how Oinest is like Mr. Ed but here are some things about Mr. Ed:
Mr Ed had a WHOPPING case of high ring bone and was pretty lame, so he would stand in one spot pretty reliably.
His prehensile upper lip was greatly enhanced by th addition of Peanut Butter under it. Some of his behavior (like his laugh) was Phleman behavior in response to odiferous substances placed in his nose.
Of course, there was also a good bit of training involved as well. Many of the clips were shots taken on one take from different angles and re used in the TV series.
Still and all, the show was very entertaining.
Oinest is somewhat close in color to Mr. Eds Main and Tail I believe.
I am glad you enjoy your dog so much. Too bad everyone doesn't take as good care of their pets as you do and want to do.
BTW:
The REAL question isn't whether or not Oinest is like Mr. Ed but is his Owner at all like Wilbur....

he is Mr. Ed, because that is what i experience.
he doesn't seem like any dog i have ever met...seems human.
i might attribute this to my getting to know him better than other dogs...but...
so many other people with dogs don't seem to relate to what i am talking about...
and i get so many comments from individuals, that he seems different than any other dog that they have met.
i don't just get admiring comments about what an interesting DOG he is...but how he doesn't seem like a dog.
the comment above, that he doesn't seem REAL, is one of many.
if he actually did talk, i would probably keep it quiet, like Wilbur.
but we have a tremendous amount of clear communication. Quote:

however, i do think there might be something to his poodle heritage that adds an extra human dimension...poodle advocates seem to talk about it alot.
personally, i think the way he has been raised has taken him to another level. Quote:

ok, here is his more dignified look: | My sister-in-law thinks her poodle is more special too. I think she is absolutely delusional. Every thing she points out about him that is "proof" of his amazing and almost human-like dog-hood my, dog is doing the same thing right next to him. She used to actually say that her dog was offended if you called him a dog because he is really a "person". I really think it is a personality trait of the owner, not one of the dog. Other than this fixation on her dog, she is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met and, after years of dog ownership, she is realizing that he really is a dog. it has been hard. but she is coming around. |

it's intuition that i and other family members see, is in the quietness of the house...Oinest doesn't appear in his human state as much when outside.
i do think there might be something to this poodle thing...poodle lovers talk more about a sense of humor than do other breed lovers.
also, i KNOW he is very much a dog.
the way that i have been able to bring out his emotional depth, is the effort i have expended in being sure he has full opportunity to express his doggy side.
he runs free at the beach and woods...he has many opportunities to play with other dogs, and to develop a "best" dog friend.
people usually misunderstand me when i say i treat him with the respect of a human.
it means that i treat him with dignity...and respect his doggie needs...not that i assume he has the same needs as a human.
but we do share many needs.
affection, a sense of belonging, and (i believe) a sense of being equal in importance to the others in the house (even if he has somewhat of a child's spot in the heirarchy).
i think this all brings out a deeper level in his personality. |

-Full opportunity to express their doggy sides
-play with other dogs
-develop dog best friends
-treat with dignity
-respect doggie needs
-affection-sense of belonging-
I'm sorry but this is what we here give our dogs and you talk like you are the only one that has a great dog and you deserve an award or something |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed Again, that's what I don't get.
Maybe you have been dealing with people who see their dogs like a belonging, or a thing for a long time. People that don't respect their dogs and think they should be doormats. Understandable, I see it all the time too.
But most of us love our dogs. We do all the same things you let your dogs do. Basic needs like being able to run, being loved, having friends, and so on... Are basic. Most of us on dogforums do that.
My two love to pull, so I take them pulling. They are social dogs, so I take them out to make friends. Kobe just made a new friend doggy named Vespa Louise.
You keep saying he is almost human, like being human is a dignity greater than that of a dog's. I disagree. I hold my dog's dignity to a higher regard than a human's. That's why your "seem human" comments sound to me like you are insulting Ernest (er- I mean, Oinest).
My two sleep wherever they want, go in and out of the house, play with other dogs, run around. They are very happy dogs.
I always am getting comments on how striking they are, how nice and well behaved they are. I would be offended if someone mistook them to be a human, because I treat them far better than I would any human. |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed It's always nice to get good comments about your dog.
Summer is a people magnet when we're out. Which is a good thing, considering we're training for therapy work right now. Since people seem to love her, its a good way to spread the joy and the good feeling around.
We get so many comments. So many people ask about her. (Which then involves me repeating the word papillon several times)
She can't help it that she's adorable.
I got one yesterday that was really amusing to me. "I've never seen such a small dog with such big ears!" |

what you are missing:
what if he really is like Mr. Ed, as i claim?
(minus the vocalization)
or that there might be other Mr. Eds out there?
and they might be different than other pooches.
consider the possibility.
it might have something to do with the fact, that when i researched breeds and info on raising dogs, i was consciously looking to maximize this effect.
plus, i think i got lucky.
since i am always getting comments from others about this unique trait of his, i don't consider myself to be too delusional. |

| Re: Oinest is like Mr. Ed I respect my dogs as dogs. I provide their needs and give them all the love and attention I am capable of giving. I respect their rights. I spend more money for my dogs than I would normally spend for myself. The countless toys I keep buying eventhough they only last for no more than 5 minutes. I pick up their poop with pride. I have sleepless nights when they are not feeling well. I've been in and out of pet store to buy things I thought they'd like. I took them to classes (they have now 3 certificates for 3 different classes) and I spend tons of time training them and playing with them. They are not my accessories. Other than my DH, they are my bestfriends. To compare them with a human being IMO is not right and aggrivating to their part. I have way more respect for my dogs than some human I know.
I bet you love your dog. And you are not alone. Most of us here LOVE our dogs. We show our love in different ways. I am not gunna compete to anybody to see who love our dogs MORE. |
