| Pedigree papers I bought Paris my new puppy over five months ago. I was told my the breeder that it would take about a month to process her registration and pedigree papers. Also when I signed the contract it stated that once I have her spayed I would then receive the full ownership for her. Well it's been 5 months and I still don't have her papers in addition to that I had her spayed over two months ago and sent proof of spaying to the breeder and again - nothing. I have sent her e-mails, which she just disgregards and when we call and she does on the rare occasion answer the phone, she keeps on saying " oh the papers are ready, I'll mail them off tomorrow". I'm kind of getting sick of this.
The one thing, that I'm worried about is that, I have had Paris in classes since she was 8 weeks old, she is already in very advanced obedience classes and just recently started agility classes with one of the best agility trainers around. So I have invested a ton of money and time in my dog, so I'm just concerned that once I start competing with Paris, what if the breeder decides to reclaim her, since I am still waiting on my full ownership.
So if any of you guys have any advice, please share.

| What would I do if I were in this situation? I'd probably drive to her place of business and demand the papers there. I'd probably threaten lawsuits. I'd probably report her to the BBB. And I'd probably call a few lawyer friends to write me some nice well thought out letters. That's what I would do, but I don't have a clue if this would be the best line of action. But I do hope everything works out for you! :/ |

| I would agree I would go and talk to her. Tell her to give you the dogs papers and that you will send them in. If not then the next time she hears from you will have an Attorys fee attact to it and then a court date.
I never buy a registerd animal with out getting signed papers. This is the same when breeding. A signed contract when the deposite is given then when the breeders cert. is isued I want it with in a few weeks or I will be contacting the Breed assoication. Some associations have better rules regarding this then others so this may or may not help.

| I would take a drive to her house, the only problem is that she lives out of State. She breeds about twice a year and only sells dogs to serious show homes, but the one thing I find a little fishy is when we drove all that way to collect the pup. Her husband was home to hand over the pup, but she was at a dog show, which is fine because I know she shows Paris's father, but the mother and the rest of the litter mates were also at the show, so needless to say I didn't get to see her parents or her litter mates. |

Can you contact them? |

The reason this is so frustrating to me is because I have always rescued my dogs and I also compete with them in agility, but if I want to compete internationally the dog has to have a three generation pedigree. So that's why I bought a dog from a breeder in the first place. If I had known that it would be such a headache to get the papers, I might as well have adopted another dog from the local shelter.

| Hang on now.
My pup is nearly 9 months old, and I JUST got her AKC papers a week ago. I don't know about your breeder, but mine is very busy. She teaches conformation classes at a local school, she's a member of the Buckeye KCA (a board member, actually) and she actively shows her dogs, and helps other people show their dogs.
So, before you get hasty with her, just try to keep in mind that she's a busy person with a life, too.
I hope you don't take my meaning too harshly. I just would really hate for you to jump the gun and ruin a relationship with someone that could be a great mentor to you. |

| Do you have the contract. If so it may take an act of congress to get the papers, but I don't think she could anyway reclaim the dog. If you don't have the contract I would contact her, be as polite as posible.Let her know that you know she is busy but if you don't have your papers by a set date the next contact will be from your lawyer. It doesn't take very long to fill out the paperwork. I don't care how busy she is, she is not that busy. Good luck |

Every time I have ever spoken to her I have been nothing, but polite. That's just the way I am. All I want is her pedigree and my full ownership, which she told me she was going to send off two months ago. I do performance events with my dogs, the breeder does conformation ( which I have no interest in)
Most people I have spoken to, say they got their papers along with their puppy upon purchase.
I do have a contract and I have done everything and much more than was expected of me. I just feel that she's blowing me off, because funny enough Paris's brother already has his papers and I think it's because the owner wants to do conformation with him.
I haven't threatened her in any way, I am merely asking for suggestions.
And another thing, I have to register her myself with the AKC the breeder will only register her with that particular breed club.

And yes I agree how long does it take run up to the post office, since the papers are ready to go, at least that's what she told me.
I just feel I did my part and now it's her turn. |

| Sorry I do not buy the bussie excuss for not taking care of registration paper work. I know it does not take that long to fill peperwork out and send it in or to the buyers/breeders. I do it every year and it is not just one set of paper work that needs to be fill out in my case.

| Definately threaten a lawyer. I would only give her 1 week at most to get the papers to you. If it is AKC reg. than if she will just give you the information from the paperwork you can register your dog online and you'll have you're papers and not even need the ones from the breeder. Go Online and look for the register links and see what info you need from the breeder and you won't even need the paperwork.

| If she shows her dogs the litter was probably registered with the ARBA or other rare breed association. If they are, contact them and ask for a written copy of their policy on giving registration papers to a new owner. Generally they are supposed to be given at the time the pup/dog is transferred to the new owner.
When my parents got their first Tibetan Terrier it took over a year to get his papers, but that turned out to be because there'd been a murder-suicide and everything was tied up due to that. Obviously your breeder doesn't have that excuse. She may just be a procrastinator who needs a fire lit under her. |

| Do you have the litter registration #? What club is she registered with? If it is a breed club, you can contact them and let them know she has violated their code of ethics. Otherwise you can see what the laws are in your area, you may have to take her to court. |
