Breeding

My boyfriend and I are breeding our female boxer. She is a brindle boxer and we are having trouble deciding wether to breed her with a brindle stud, or a fawn stud. Does anyone know the outcome in either situation?
Thanks a bunch!!

I suggest spaying and neutering your dog.

Breeding for color, rather then health or temperments will cause you nothing but grief.

Boxers often cannot give live birth due to the slze of the heads on the puppies. C-sections are very very expensive.

Plus, boxers have loads of health problems, more the most other dogs.

Don't breed your dog. There's no need. Boxers are a dime a dozen. Trust me, just go to your local shelter, and you'll see 4 or 5 boxers in there.

Unless you show your dogs, you're actually doing harm to the breed.

WHY do you want to breed your dog? Is she show quality and how will you improve the breed? Has she been shown? Has she been tested for genetic problems? And more important - if you bought her from a breeder do you have breeding rights?

Both snowshoe and Keno'smom make excellent points.

Breeding for color and looks is NOT ok. Temperment, and health are what you really need to breed for.

However, I wouldn't reccommend breeding your dogs in this particular situation.

http://americanboxerclub.org/health-screening.html

This link will show you the health screenings that should be done before you even think of breeding your boxer. That is assuming you even wish to consider going about it the right way instead of joining the ranks of backyard and puppymill breeders.

If you got your boxer from a responsible breeder, there's a good chance she was sold to you on a limited registration. If this is the case, and you breed her, the litter would not be eligible for registration. If you got her from a pet store or some backyard breeder who did what you're indicating you want to do (bred for color or other single trait), then your dog is not breeding material. Spay her and enjoy her as a loving pet. You will save yourself and possibly her from a lot of potential grief.
