I learned something new this week

We were doing a spay on a pregnant cat. The Doc told me that cats go into estrus and mating stops it. So a single tom is the father to the whole litter. Dogs on the other hand, stay in heat for a certain length of time, so it is POSSIBLE to have multiple fathers to pups in a single litter. I never knew that!

That is what the doc said to me. One father per litter of kittens.

Lol, I always figured that it worked the same with cats as it did dogs.

Thanks for the info! Very interesting indeed.

My dog, Hershie, comes from such a litter. His mother is shih tzu, thought the father was too. Found out the father is poodle. Some of the other puppies are full shih tzu and some are of the same mix shih tzu poodle mix .
