spaying/incontinence

FYI - I brought my 4 1/2 month old puppy to the vet today because although she is completely housebroken, she pees when she is asleep or when her body begins to relax. The vet believes that she is incontinent due to the fact that she was spayed by the humane society at too early of an age (she was less then 12 weeks when they did it). She is now on very small doses of estrogen in order to treat it.

Just though you might want to know.

Same thing with my dog. Only she was an adult when she was spayed. She's also on incontinence medication

Good luck

incontinence in spayed dog

hello, our 15 weeks old cockapoo was just spayed a few days ago, she had a couple days of peeing buckets in the floor, whereas before she was completely housebroken. We took her to the vet, he did a urine analysis, and it showed red and white blood cells and an elevated protein count in her urine. All indicated the early stages of a uti (urinary tract infection). He started her on antibiotics last night, and already she is back to not having accidents.

You might want to check with your vet to see if your dog has the same.

When we asked our vet about the best time to spay, we were told that unless a bitch goes through one season they will have a risk of not developing complete urinary control (something to do with hormones). This was presented as a reason not to spay until after the first season, and set against the increased risk of breast cancer.

Dulce, you say yours was an adult when she was spayed. Do you know whether she had had any seasons?
