| Rough days at the clinic--just venting First, I want to say i love my job, although there are parts and days that are not my favorite things.
The last hour yesterday and this morning were days I would rather not have many of. 3 euthanasia cases in 15 minutes last night, 2 today and 3 HW + dogs today. It gets to me sometimes. Why do people own animals if they won't get vet care? And when, because of their own laziness an animal gets sick, why put it down because they dont want to spend the money on treatment? I believe that once you adopt a pet, it is yours for their entire life. I know sometimes costs become overwhelming, but most vets will work with their clients on payment. Sometimes you DO have to weigh the cost/benefit, but that isn't always what happens. Sorry guys, it was just hard. I think because one of the dogs I put down was the spitting image of a retriever mix i had for 18 years and had to put down when she became terminally ill. It brought that day back for me.
Anyways, thanx for letting me vent. <SIGH> |

| I think this is a safe place for you to vent bigdawgs, since your job is so practical to this forum. However, if I start venting about my non-dog related job, please knock some sense in me! |

| I wonder the same thing all the time. I would be venting too if I had your job, erm.. whatever it is. Vet tech? Not sure on that one... anyways, alot of the vets nowadays actually don't do payment options. My friend's dog has a hernia of sorts and they wouldn't do anything unless she had all the money I guess.
I think I should get some pet insurance... lol
edit: Not sure if the dog ever went into the vet.. o.O |

| I feel for you.....You vent away!
You are a very special person to do the work you do. I'm sure the good days out weigh the bad, but oh, those bad days.... . |

| I'm very against people putting their pets down, too unless it is something that is terminal and will come with a lot of pain. But, I've gotten broke many times over having to do medical treatements for my dogs but that is life. If you take the dog you take on the responsibility of taking care of it. I'm sure your job is very stressful, I don't think I could handle anything like that. |

| i am also a vet. but i work at a vca clinic, and there are many more people there to help. also, the prices are high over here, so only the "wealthy" people come to us. but the problem with that is sometimes people come with their pets that are already virtually dead, and want us to revive them, when it's impossible. but we try. it can be a really hard job, but when you save the pet, and the owners are overjoyed to have it back, the reward is priceless. |

| iamcool1109, you are not a vet. Please don't claim to be one because someone may misuse your poor information. It's possible that you may have "volunteered" at a clinic, but this does not give you the right to claim that you are a vet. http://forums.dogs365.com/showthread.php?t=6119

| I am NOT A VET. I am a vet assistant, in a small community in Iowa. All of my training has been on the job, I have been active in basset hound rescue, transport and have trained my own and have owned dogs for thirty years. There is more I would like to say concerning your credentials, but I think I would be doing my profession and my personal integrity a disservice. |
