| poor poor maisy.... a client of mine had two dogs,a female pit bull named maisy, and mollie, a chiweenie. they're both pretty old, mollie being 8 and maisy, 14. maisy was at the dog park a few days ago, and maisy was leashed the whole time, since the park was point isabel, a non-fenced dog park. another dog came up, without a collar or leash, and attacked and fataly injured maisy. maisy had nowhere to run, sice she was on a leash, and she was too old to run anyways so she had to withstand the attack. she died two days later. the dog was reportedly a pure chocolate labrador, the most aggressive and stubborn of the three different lab colors.
this shows that the gentlest of breeds can be dangerous, and the most feared can be the innocent. |

| That is horrible. Whoever owned that Lab needs some major punishment for not watching such an aggressive dog. Whoa, I can't believe a Lab was so aggressive like that but I have heard of it. Just goes to show you that Pit Bulls aren't always the bad guys. |

| yes, and the labrador was a stray, which meant that the dog was probably abandoned, because you don't find purebred labradors running across the state.
the animal control has him in custody, and will most likely be put to sleep, |

Bleh. I do have a bone to pick with you though, the color of a dog's coat does not determine wether or not it is "the most aggressive and stubborn" - It all has to do with how the dog is raised and socialized. It also has a small amount to do with genetics.. but for the most part, it's all how they were raised.
I'm kinda annoyed that you even said that to be honest. I've met more aggressive yellow labs than anything, lol. *shrugs*
Sorry if that sounded rude at all, not trying to be.
But I do have a tendancy to come off as a *****.... heh |

| well, that may be true, but the majority of all the labradors i've treated, chocolate labs seem to be the most unruly. and actually, it does sometimes matter of the color. the black labrador was the original, and they are the ones who usually make the best bird dogs (but, then again, it all depends on the trainer and the individual dog's temperament.) yellow labs tend to be more mellow. chocolate labs are probably the most energetic, along with the black lab.
i am not a labrador fan myself; i tend to go for the herding breeds, such as border collies and shelties. but i live in a bad neighborhood, where dogs get stolen from yards easily, so i like keeping smaller dogs that need less excersize, and can be kept indoors when left unattended, such as my bulldogge and yorkie
oh yeah, the labrador will be put down the day after tomorrow if the owners don't show up, since it's an aggressive dog. even if the owners do come to claim him, he may still be euthanized. |

| I'm sorry, but your statement about smaller breeds needing less exercise is completely wrong. Each dog is different, and it has nothing to do with size. You must not have owned a small dog that needed plenty of exercise. |

| Corgis are fairly small dogs (weighing no more than 30 lbs at maturity), and they need LOADS of exercise and mental stimulation. I wear myself out trying to wear my dogs out lol... >u.u<
It is awfully stupid of that person though, to let an obviously dog-aggressive dog off the leash in public. It's people like that who make responsible dog owners look bad. |

| Where was Maisy's owner in all of this? I trained Ronin to know that if he got in trouble there was always a safe place between a persons legs. And plus if i saw the choco lab attacking Ronin that roughly the lab would have gotten the crap kicked out of him very quickly. If the owner wasn't watching out, then thats kind of bad too. |

| I asked Doc this question this morning. He has bred and raised labs AND is a vet. He may not know everything but I asked him "Is there a genetic link to coat color and aggression/personality traits in Labs?"
his reply: "Not to my knowledge". If anyone can back this statement up with factual evidence, I would be most interested in seeing it. |

| ok, all this is in my opinion, and in the opinion of my fellow vetrinarians.
maisy's owner.... was probably running away from the whole fight... i am not totally sure of what actually happened, but i know for a fact that maisy's owner didn't do anything about it... because if she did do something, maisy's leg wouldnt have almost been chewed off. |

| and also, i'm suprised at your vetrinarian. the majority of people, including vetys, like myself, would say that it's better to rescue a dog, not keep breeding and breeding dogs.... i rescued my dogs from a dog collector. |
