My friend has just moved cross country to a new city, a new house, a new life. She brought her whole family, including 3 year old son and also her 10 year old German Shepherd. She says her dog Tzihan has always seemd jealous of her son since he was born, but now in the last week since they arrived the dog has nipped at her son once, and then big her son's face (not enough for stitches but did draw a bit of blood and gave a bruise). The dog has a chronic skin yeast infection (life long problem) and arthritis. Both these ailments seemed to have gotten worse and he also seems depressed, whining a lot, and not interested in going out into their new back yard. My friend has decided to keep him totally separate from her son, for the forseeable future. She's terrified these two warnings from Tzihan are a sign that he's not adjusting well at all.
Does anyone know anything about doggie anti-depressants and can suggest any other advice? This is a serious compound problem which is totally affecting my friend's transition in their new life - she seems terrified to ever have Tzihan and her son in the same room - and I don't blame her. It's a sad development - and any advice would be welcome.
