| I am very sorry that you have to go through this. Is he ill? If he is and in pain you have nothing to forgive yourself for. In that instance you are doing what is best for him & that is the most unselfish thing you can do. |

| I'm sorry to hear this. Years ago i bought a rottwieler, at the age 8 months he was so much in pain from his hips, that he could hardly sleep. The hardest thing i ever had to do, is make that trip to the vet but it had to be done. Your in my prayers. |

| I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I know what it is like. I always feel guilty, but I know it is the right thing. Because the animal shouldn't have to suffer if it is sick, or in pain. It never gets any easier. Don't feel guilty. I don't know if you have put an animal down before now. But, one of my cats that I had to put down. Someone had told me that they always are with their animals to the end. I didn't think I could do it, but I did, and I am glad I did. It gave me comfort to be with my pet at that time. And I was able to spend as much time with them after they passed. I still cried, but it was just better to know that I was with them when they passed. And they go the the Rainbow Bridge. Just remember all the good times you had with him. I'll say a prayer for you. |

| Im so sorry mate. Best friends are hard to lose. You and him will be reunited some day. You gotta do whats best for him. If hes suffering it is the owners responsibility to relieve him of his misery. I never want to do that. I wouldnt have the strength too. Its so hard to say goodbye to the ones you love and cherish. I hope you are there with him to say goodbye. |

| He was a pit bull. He did what he was bred to do .I do feel your pain but, would you put down a greyhound for running? The more i got to thinking about this, the more it bothered me.I just knew you were going to come back and say he attacked another dog. PLEASE people before you get a dog, learn about the breed you are getting.I have pits and will allways have pits.I have had them for 30 years. They are animal aggressive, if given the chance they will fight with another dog.It is our job as thier masters to keep them safe.Do not let them get in to a situation that this can happen. It makes me so mad when some one puts a pit bull down for fighting with another dog. DUH! |

| I am so sorry. My prayers are with you. Hope this makes you feel better.
If you've ever known the joyful sound
Of barks that fill the air-
A sloppy kiss, a friendly paw,
A quiet adoring stare-
If you've ever had a special friend
To share a tear or two,
Or maybe just a wagging tail
To lift you when you're blue-
If you've ever felt the wrenching pain
That only death can send,
Then you have lost
Not just a dog-
You've truly lost a friend.
But God is good and treasures love
And there at Heaven's gate-
A sloppy kiss, a joyful bark-
Your precious friend awaits. |

DUH! | 100% not the dogs fault. It is your job to keep them and other dogs safe. HA is the only reason to put a bully down. Bullys are not for everyone. It takes a great deal of time, and love, devotion to the breed to have one. |

| Hey now. Calm down a bit workingdog. I agree it is BS that it happens, but it does. Life is an animals privilage anymore, but never4getuRED, you are doing the right thing. My friend had to do the same thing with hers. It is so hard to loose a friend, I know. Highways really suck. But anyways, your doing the unselfish, correct thing to do. It is programed in Pits to fight, for it is their breeding and heritage. But sometimes it is out of our hands and it is hard to protect our dogs.
Thank you for thinking about the will of your dog enough to save others in the prossess. And thank you for doing what is best for your best friend.
Me outtie. Emma

| To the OP- do you have a Pitbull rescue in your area? Perhaps they can be helpful to you, so that you don't have to put him to sleep. I'm sure that there are other people in your area who have more breed experience then you do.
Please make putting him down the last resort. Almost any dog can be rehabilitated in the right circumstances.
To Emma- I know that life happens, and sometimes it is totally out of our control. However, with a bit of knowlege, certain things can be in our control. That is why everyone should research carefully before picking out a companion dog.
If the OP didn't want a dog agressive dog, he should have chosen another breed. It is not fair to the dog to have to pay for the owner's mistakes with his very life. In my opinion, that is inhumane.
Pitbulls were named because of their ferocity in the dog fighting pit in earlier times. Even today, irresponsible and cruel people use their animal aggressive instinct for sport and entertainment. This is common knowlege, and there is even breed specific legislation regarding these animals (I think that is also BS, btw).
He knew what he was getting when he purchased this breed of dog.
I agree that the situation is heartbreakingly sad, but it is the pet that I feel terribly for. |

| This is why Pits aren't for everybody. Only a VERY SELECT FEW can handle this type of dog.
As a responsible owner, I can see why WorkingDog is so angry. I am too.
Dog aggressive Pits are adopted out ALL THE TIME. You just need to take the necessary procautions, and be very careful, and not allow your dog to ineract with other dogs.
Putting to sleep a DA dog is NOT the answer. That's the wrong thing to do, and to be quite honest, you shouldn't own this breed if you can't handle it.
Part of owning a Pit is KNOWING that this is in their blood. If your dog attacked another dog, it was YOUR fault because it can be prevented.
Please consider a rescue first!! |
