| Pit Bull Lovers Sign Petition for Positive Image This is a petition to get FOX News to do a segment on the truth about pitbulls. How they are not naturally aggressive and how with the proper respectful owners that make great pets for children and families. It's time we as respectful owners and breeders show the public the truth about these dogs instead of hiding behind the lies and being too scared to say anything in case Pits get banned in our area. Hiding isnt saving these dogs. Waiting untill there is a policy in place to ban the dogs is too late. We need to pull together now to help this breed of dog we all love so much. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/PitBullAwareness

| I have to say, I was one of those people who were leery about pit bulls. All the stuff I've heard scared me and I thought they were evil dogs. Thank the media for this folks because that's where I've heard everything.
I have completely changed my opinion of pit bulls. The ones I've met are the most wonderful, playful, loving, affectionate dogs I've ever met. I met one tonight. She was so cute I just could have taken her home. I never knew they were that type of dog. So....people who are against them OBVIOUSLY have never met one.
I'm signing!! |

| We all base our opinions based largely on our own life experience. Obviously many of you have had more favorable experience with this breed than I have. I can not and will not support this breed. With that being said, I am vehemently opposed to the type of law that would ban any particular breed. The government already has their nose to far into our lives for my taste. I will simply aviod this breed and choose never to expose anyone in my family to them. |

| I suppose I am lucky- all my experiences with Pits and Pit mixes have been absolutely wonderful.
However, I disagree with you in saying that it is ONLY the people who make them aggressive. Pit Bulls along with Sheps, Rotties, etc. are born and bred to be guard dogs. Not watch dogs, mind you, but guard dogs.
Therefore, they probably will be more aggressive then your average Labradore Retriever.
THIS DOES NOT MAKE THEM BAD DOGS. It just means that they're not a breed for everyone. People say the same thing about keeshonden, pomeranians, poodles, beagles, etc. With that being said, I disagree with breed specific legislation. It reminds me of that saying that "guns do not kill people. People kill people." If a person has a dangerous dog, it is their responsibility to care for it and to make sure that it doesn't hurt anyone. With that being said, most pits are not dangerous.
Just as with any breed, too many cooks will spoil the brew, and so it goes with pit bulls. If more GOOD breeders would get involved and start saving the breed rather then ruining it by trying to breed bigger, meaner pits, we problably wouldn't even have breed specific legislation.
I would support a show about pit bulls that was truthful and showed both sides of the coin. I think that more people need to stop letting their fear make their decisions for them.
It is not fair for an entire breed to be judged by the deeds of a few. It should be on a case by case basis, and I agree that people need to see the softer side of pits. |

| I'm sorry to respond to an older thread but I felt I needed to correct something that was said. Pit bulls are NOT good guard dogs. The American Pit Bull Terrier was bred to very friendly with people. In a dog fight a referee had to be able to go in and separate the dogs. Any dog that showed human aggression was immediately culled. Guarding was just not their purpose. Quote:
Not for him is the wary suspicion of the guardian breeds who view strangers as potential threats to their safety. The only thing "fierce" about his greeting of friend or stranger alike is the wagging of his tail. Will he guard his car or property? Sometimes, but best not to count on it. He sees the world as his friend. Will he protect his owner if that person is actually assaulted? The pit bull of sound temperament who does not rally under this circumstance is rare indeed. He loves children most of all - and a pleased, relaxed look crosses his face when they approach. He can be rough and tumble in his play, but if the kids are old enough to handle it, no better companion can be found. www.workingpitbull.com | Quote:
Because the Pit Bull is generally such a people-friendly breed, they often make poor guards of property. Many specimens of the breed will allow strangers to enter the home or yard without a fuss, whether the owner is present or not. As a guardian of his human, however, the Pit Bull is quite willing and able to intercept an attack. The breed is credited with having exceptional judgement and will react only to real threats. Because of the Pit Bull's generally poor guarding instincts and natural inclination to protect his owner if need be, it is best to stay away from any sort of guard or protection dog training. A good dog can be ruined quite easily, making for a wary, untrusting animal that may become a danger to humans. Do not try to make the Pit Bull into something he is not. If a serious guard or attack dog is what you desire, it is best to look to one of the breeds that have been specifically created for that type of work. www.realpitbull.com | |
