my other problem... :(

Like 6 months ago my ex-boyfriend broke into my house, while I was there. Back then I had, Major my pit bull and a female, Angel an American bull dog. My ex took all the phones in the house and held me up in a room for almost two hours.. He was screaming at me and hitting me and the dogs were going crazy because they were locked out of the room. Finally he opened the door , grabe major and through him! At this time i was kicking him and crying then i made a dash for the front door... i was outside yelling for help when he put Angel in his truck and run off... I havent seen him since.I moved so he dosnt know where i live now..... But now major hates all men.. he freaks out if they come close to me.... The only men he trust is my boyfriend Jeremy.... but this causes a problem for me because its hard to have people when Major is freaking out.... What should i do?

Sorry to hear about your situation...I do hope sanity hsas finally found you. But, a dog who have developed negative feelings towards people, and over time their fears gets worse, you have to look at the dog's environment because there may be something that is reinforcing the behavior...like jerking of the leash or being yelled at or scolded. So, if any of these things are going on, look to eliminate them.

If he doesn’t like men, it’s important that he not be put in that kind of a position until you can teach him a good deal about feeling comfortable around men, and gradually get him use to men. Your dog will need to learn to accept physical contact from men, but gradually and under pleasant conditions. He must never be pressured into tolerating physical contact. Since he's taken a liking to Jeremy, I would inform Jeremy of NILIF, and ask him to help you work with the dog. Both of you should participate in handling Major...on walks, feedings, etc. And over time if you find that Major accepts other male family members or friends, ask them for help too. Have them lead Major through some simple sit and stay or other commands where he can be rewarded with praise and/or treats. I believe this will help build he confidence with men. But again, it must be done gradually, and ceased (until you can try again later) if Major should exhibit any fear tendencies. I hope this helps.

Yea, Major not only tolerates Jeremy he loves him. Major cuddles with him and the play together... when he pulls in the drive way Major knows the sound of his car and runs to the window... he doesn't do that for anyone else. but if Jeremy runs up to me and grabs me ( like in a bear-hug kind of way) he will bark, growl, and jump on him.. but he wont hurt him. I think he is warning him to "play" softer with me... I printed up the "Nothing In Life Is Free" info and I will have him read it too.
