| Best treatment for urine smells Now that my 6 month old has finally started to abandon the carpet as a port-a-john, I've tried several different treatments to get out smells. I always blotted up the accident with a zillion paper towels (I contributed a hefty amount to Bounty papertowels, which I should've bought by the pallet) & used either OUT (got it at Wal-Mart), vinegar, or Urine-off (the most expensive, ordered it online). But I've heard about Nature's Miracle, which is certainly less pricey than the Urine-Off (which has not taken out some smells any better than anything else -- its fragrance is more citrusy, but that's about it).
I need to steamclean the carpet but don't want to until I can't sniff anymore old urine oder -- and I am picky, picky about cleaning. Now I'm just going to invididual places with soap Tide water & a towel!!!
What's worked best for you? I don't particularly want to pay $60 for a gallon of Urine-Off if I don't have to!!!!! |

| Possibly the urine has gotten deep into the carpet pad as well. If the urine has soaked into the carpet and the carpet pad you will need to really drench it with cleaner in order to remove the smell completely. If you can lift the carpet to ensure you get the padding thoroughly I would try that.
A few good products -

| I think we got nearly every accident there was pretty fast. We would use paper towels until it was up & then spray with whatever. I thought Linus would NEVER housebreak -- my other female puppies learned in no time!
Today at Wal-Mart I got this stuff called Kids n Pets stain & oder remover. Its tag had a high ranking from Amazon customers, I figured why not give it a try? If that doesn't work, I'll go for the Nature's Miracle as I've seen that at WalMart, too (don't have to drive further to a PetSmart.
Thanks -- I'll have to upload a picture of my doggies! |

| I've used both Natures Miracle and Simple Solution. Simple was a little cheeper for the gal refill bottle than Natures. They both work pretty well. I've used walmart stuff also but it seemed to have more fragrance to mask smells and I don't know if it really gets rid of them as well. The simple solution, if it has gotten into the pad, can be poured into the carpet and really soak it in. |

| Get ODOR MUTE!! It's a miracle worker! ANd I don't think it's that expensive.
My grandma swears by it and has been using it for like, 20 years. Then, she conviced me to try it and I was very happy with the results |

| To break down urine smells and stains use 10 parts water with 1 part biological washing powder or liquid, clean area thoroughly with this test an area first to make sure that it will not mark or fade the carpet area.
After doing this which breaks down all the acids and proteins in the urine then clen over with a quality odor reducer like odor mute as Dulce has said.

| What's the equivalent of American biological washing powder? Baking soda or Borax?
I'll look on the net for Odor Mute, never heard of it! |

Biological detergents and washing powders use lipases and proteases to break down fat and protein molecules from stains which have remained on clothing or articles. The fatty acids, glycerol and amino acids which are produced are removed in the water during cleaning. Thereby removing the odours these produce.

| Re: Best treatment for urine smells Works on ink stains too. I love Natures Miracle- our pup had chewed on a pen, and I had ink stains on my beige rug. Big nasty ink stains. I used alcohol, and hairspray and was on my hands and knees for hours - it was faded, but there was still a big blue stain in the middle of the floor. So a couple weeks went by and I was using Nature's Miracle to clean up her pee accident when I decided to give a go to the ink stain - and it's now gone. Don't want to claim that it works by itself, cause I did use alcohol and hairspray on it a few weeks before but it is all gone now. And it also works great on the urine smell (as far as my nose can tell) |
