| What Breed is this mutt?
Hello all. I'm fostering this dog. Her name is Isabelle. I have her listed on pet-finder as a greyhound/terrior mix. I'm sure I'm wrong, can some of you help me identify her breed? Thanks so much.

| Where do you see Greyhound?
Would you happen to have a pic where the dog is facing the camera so I can get a better look? |

| I agree we need a pic where we can see the face.
From this angle Im guessing a Plott Hound mix, maybe with some terrier.
How big is she? |

| She kinda reminds me of my dog, Rose, who is a Lab/Cattle Dog/GSD mix. Rose is only about....65lbs. It's hard to tell what mixes are in a dog because the parents are often mix breeds themselves....if I saw Rose I might think "Lab/GSD mix" but I wouldn't see Cattle dog in her.
So maybe you foster is a Cattle Dog/GSD/Hound mix of some sort....*shrugs* |

| Here is a face shot of my foster mutt named Isabelle. Thank you so much for the responses so far. I get the greyhound from the legs, chest, ears, tail, and brindle color. I threw terrior as a mix because that is what I call all mixes because I'm not good with dog breeds. The vet gave her shots yesterday. It hmmm'd and awww'd some and said maybe some greyhound, but was real convinced. As far as another breed he just said he wouldn't consider her a terrier at all.
I suggested a laughing Hyenia, he laughed and said maybe Dingo, but I don't know what a Dingo is.
Please keep up with your suggestions. I want to make sure I list her in the best spot on pet-finder. Too bad they don't let you pick just plain ol' mutt.
She is about 35 pounds and stands a little shorter than a labrador. Petfinder PetNotes

| I think it's funny that people automatically assume "Boxer" or "Grey hound" because he's brindle.
LOTS of dogs can be brindle, and he's mixed, so you'll never know.
I would say lab, no Greyhound, no Boxer..Lab.Terrier. Lots of stuff! |

| Hmmm...I still stick by my GSD/Lab/Cattle dog mix earlier. She just got more of the Cattle dog and GSD than my mutt did! Rose looks like a Lab with brindle coloring. Your pup looks like a GSD mutt the size of a Cattle dog! lol |

| Thanks all for your comments. The vet still thinks she might be part greyhound and I told him what you guys had said about cattle dog. He agreed that the mix could include a working dog. I am going to include the part about cattle dog in pet-finder.
Got a question?
What does GSD stand for? I'm kinda' new at all this. Thanks. |

| Ok, I'll be the odd duck here and suggest staffordshire terrier/beagle.
The width of the forehead and the set of the ears remind me of a staffie... and they can be brindle.
The size, white markings and set of the tail along with the shape of the chest; plus the overall "stance" remind me of beagle.
So there's MY uneducated guess! :P: |

| Well see!
Now that we have someone who obviously was there at conception, the riddle is solved. Wow, what ARE the odds? |

Hi
I have a Border Colllie, Lab mix. She had a litter of pups and I kept one that looks a whole lot like your dog. I call her Dusty. Her dad was a traveling man just passing through but I did see him from a distance and he was mostly brown in color. I think he was a mix breed also. So I guess I'm trying to say there really is no telling. Dusty, however being Border Collie mix, will try to herd. Her mother does this too. They will try to lead cars down our drive and then try to stop them (the drivers) befor they go up the steps. They also try to stop my house dog from coming in. This behavior was bred into them.
No matter, she's a fine healthy and happy looking dog.

| I have looked at hundreds of pictures of known mixed breeds and I can tell you the most unreliable factor is the color. If possible you should ignore it. Reliable indicators are:
size
build (stocky, medium, slender?)
muzzle shape (flat, narrow, deep?)
personality (digger, chaser, swimmer?)
ears (drop, prick, rose?)
paws (flat-footed, on tip toe?)
Even then I have seen pics whre NOBODY would have guessed what the known mix was! |
