| The horror of a black light! I thought we were doing great with potty training until we got a tube black light and looked at the carpet at night.
It was like Halloween in the family room, a real fright!
I went over every spot, scheduled a carpet cleaning and we are back on Mia patrol.
I think our mistake was carrying on with the potty pads after the breeder used them and then taking them away too soon. She used to go right to the pads but now it's the carpet and she's fast. She holds it forever, goes outside, does nothing and then comes in and pees.
So about a week ago I went back to watching, making a big deal when she went, giving a treat etc.
Thankfully, she's starting to go to the door and not having as many accidents.
Worst of all, our carpet is new and it doesn't show when she pees. I have teens so got the color of spilled diet coke!
If you have a chance, borrow a black light. Not the little light bulb kind, the fluorescent strips. |

| Re: The horror of a black light! LOL!! I'm scared to do that here...I'm afraid of what I'll see. LOL!! I've thought about having my carpet cleaned. Or renting a shampooer and cleaning them myself. I was going to do it after Uallis was 100% potty trained, he is, I just haven't gotten around to it yet... |

| Re: The horror of a black light! I have cats a dog, and 4.5 year old and a 2.5 year old, so we had to buy a carpet cleaner. With all of the 'use' my carpet gets (hairballs, potty training 2.5 year old, etc) we shampoo the carpet at least once a week. |

| Re: The horror of a black light! I recently got a blacklight too since my dog is almost 100% trained. It really was horrible!! I had no idea those spots lasted as I cleaned them with Natures Miracle. I also have very light carpet and it looks clean. I am going to get mine professionaly cleaned too. |

| Re: The horror of a black light! I do the same thing Nlke...I bought a big steam cleaner for the carpet (one of those expensive ones that heat the water in the machine) and end up having to do my carpets about once a week, and completely tear it apart about every 2 to clean the dog hair out of the sprayers and the vacuum part, it clogs so bad...I'm glad I don't have long haired dogs!
I also go through the national deficit in carpet shampoo...and I have all tile floors with about 4 large area rugs (since I hate cold tile on my feet) |

(I'm 17 yrs older) If you can come up with an invention to keep teenagers from spilling coke you'd be a millionare! I think they seriously considered mountain dew/red bull colored carpet, but went with coke brown instead.
I'm afraid to turn a blacklight on in here!

| Re: The horror of a black light! I used a blacklight to show my hubby just how nasty carpet is. Carpet is horrible for allergies as well. Dust mites thrive in carpet. Cleaning your carpet is better than not but it remains in the pad whiuch is why some people complain shortly after professional cleaning that the stain has "returned".
My downstairs it tile. We are presently putting in wood flooring upstairs. Soon we'll be carpet free!!! |

| Re: The horror of a black light! I'm too scared to use a blacklight. This past weekend, however, we finally rented a Rug Doctor and shampooed it all. All the stains disappeared.... and then Carolina peed on the clean carpet right after. |
