English Bulldogs

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm thinking about getting another dog, in particular an English Bulldog. I'm just wondering if anyone here owns one or has had first hand experience with one so I can get an owner's perspective.

Also, does anyone know of any good California/Arizona breeders in that area? Thanks so much

Re: English Bulldogs

Welcome to dog forums.

I've never owned an English Bulldog, but I've spent some time with them.

A good breeder is especially important with the bulldog. The exaggerated features can lead to serious health problems - especially respiratory.

They have low maintenance coats, but the facial wrinkles need daily care to avoid sores and eczema.

They are less-demanding in terms of exercise but need plenty of attention and can be stubborn in training. Do you have the patience?

The bulldogs that I've know get along well with other dogs and with children though, if you have a very active dog or household, a bulldog may have trouble keeping up.

They are a very different dog than the bull-baiting dogs of the past. People that have them seem to adore them, but don't expect a dog that can run all day, play fetch and take very long walks - especially in the heat.

Re: English Bulldogs

my father recently purchased a bull dog puppy from a bad breeder, and is now living to regret it.

She was sweet as a puppy, but is now aggressive. That could also be that he does nothing with her. No one but my dad can handle her, and he can't do it very well.

She has major health problems, including serious skin and coat issues. It seems like she always has some kind of cold, or serious cough.

She is on a special diet, because she's developed some kind of gastric issue. It could be allergies, but who knows?

She can't be walked due to all of these issues, so she spends her whole life inside- not really much fun for a dog, I'd imagine.
