| My day has been awesome! Hello everyone how has you day been? mine has great.
OK heres how it started:
Yesterday I emailed a lady who lives 2 hours from me about Chihuahuas. Well she emailed me back this morning anf offered to call me. Not once have a EVER had a breeder ask to call me and talk about there breed. Well this lady is just the sweetest thing ever. We talked for over an hour about her Chis and Chis in general. She answered all of my questions and even offered for my dad and I to come watch her show her adult and puppies. She also said that we were more than welcome to come out to her place to see all of her dogs. She has 2 Englsih Bulldogs that are her husband's and she has her Chis, and a rescue who "patrols" the house, haha. She doesn't inter-breed her dogs and follows by the standards of breeding Chis and wants to better the breed. She's been breeding for over 10 years and her mom breed Chis for 30+ plus years before she did.
So I'm very happy about meeting this lady and all her doggies.
Then my dad just called me and he is at the horse barn he boards his stallion at. A girl who use to ride horses at this barn had a Pom show up at her door. The Pom belonged to the people down the road but they didn't want it no more so they just threw it outside, its sad. So my dad is bringing the Pom home to see how he does. He doesn't have a collar so I don't know his name but I'm calling him Max for now. He is about 2 years old and is light colored. We are going to take him to the vet when my dad gets paid. "Max" is suppose to be house trained and well-mannered, I hope he sticks up to what they said. I'll give updates later tonight on "Max". |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Wow, that does sound fabulous--so you might have a dog now!!
I would definitely take up the breeder you talked to on her offer to see her show. You can meet her dogs that way and you'll also have a chance to talk to other breeders of chis or other breeds. It would be a great way to make contacts. Especially if you have a dog now, you may want to keep in touch with some of the breeders in your area and look into getting your dream puppy a little later on, when you can afford TWO dogs! |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Well Maxy is doing awesome. He is the prettiest little dog ever.
The girl said he no older than 2-3 years old. He is so well-mannered. he is house trained (so far) and he is not a barker at all. he foloows me around everywhere and when I get up he is not far behind me. If all goes well with Maxy then I might end up getting a Pom puppy. He is so well behaved, I don't know why anyone would abanded him. He is not neutered and has never been bred. I am on edge on either to neuter or not, I will more than likely neuter him.
My best friend has a red Pom named Foxy and she wants to breed her to a light colored Pom but I told her I didn't know about breeding Maxy, i am going to wait to see what the vet thinks before I make any choices to breed or not. I will ONLY breed him once I learn more about the breed and if the vet clears him of all health concerns and says he's ok to breed.
Pictures coming soon!!! |

But, but, but... please neuter him. he's VERY cute, but he's not to standard for a Pom, you don't know enough about his family history, healthwise (and Poms have a LOT of genetic health problems, unfortunately) and just.. no. You don't breed a rescue. EVER.

| Re: My day has been awesome! The dog is adorable! But, we can't ignore how terrible it is that the owners just "didn't want him" so they essentially threw him away. It always shocks me how people can be so cruel and heartless... |

| Re: My day has been awesome! When I first heard about Lady when she was available, I was excited but a little cautious because I had heard all of those 'things' about poms. But when you were describing max, I couldn't help but thinking how sweet like lady he is. I wonder why poms aren't known for their sweetness? |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Well here is an update:
Maxy didn't last long. Last night he woke me up chewing on my bed frame. After I told him NO and sent him to his bed, he then got back up and started chewing again while I watched him. I told him NO again and he jumped back on his bed, he contiuned this for about 3 hours (3-6am). I even put outside my room and closed the door, he tried digging under my door, mind you I have hard wood floors. Then I opened my door giving him way to come in and out, I HATE sleeping with my door open and I did this one night. FYI: The backsides of 2 of my bed legs are gone.
He thought it would be funny to BITE my older Lab, Jet, and she made the worlds worse sound! He barely drew blood but Jet is my dad's baby and he said no to having Max.
So my dad took him back to the farm he got Mexy at yesterday. My dad told me there was another lady there that wanted Maxy but she told my dad to take him home to me to see how it goes but if Maxy didn't work out she'd get him. So my dad is suppose to call her to get him.
But I know i'm probably going to get bashed and thrown into the basement for this but I can't have another dog bite my dog, that won't fly iin this house. Jet is an only dog and she is in NO way dog aggressive, she is dominant but would NEVER bite another animal. |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Whew! I went from happy and excited to blaaah . Thats too bad about Max. You never know how dogs will act together when they are so new. Everything will seem fine and the next second they can go nutso . It is suprising really. I learned that pretty quick.
Sounds like Max needs to be crated at night untill he gets all settled and used to new house rules like "No eating the bed" Well coulda shoulda woulda will get you no where now I guess.
Sorry to hear Max did not work out |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Given that you didn't give Max any real guidance on what TO do- only what NOT to do, and the size difference between him and your lab, I don't think you really gave him a fair shot. I think you need to wait to get another dog until you've got a more realistic approach to what a dog needs to fit into a home correctly. |

I'm not going to have some dog come into my house and get aggressive with my other dog. that might fly in your house but it don't in mine. Thank you |

| Re: My day has been awesome! Aww that is too bad about Max. I think that if you get a puppy that will be with the black lab all of it's life it will grown up with the lab as a normal everyday thing and won't be aggressive towards jet. That is awsome that you found a good Chihuahua breeder I am glad to hear that! Next time you see me on message me I need to ask you something! |
