Can anyone tell me

What type of dog this is? My husband has been wanting one of these dog's but I don't know much about dog breeds so I have no clue what breed this is.

Here is a link to a picture of the dog(it is the one featured on the Cesar Canine dog food cans)

http://www.cesar.com/cuisine/product.aspx?cat=2&id=0

Re: Can anyone tell me

It is a West Highland White Terrier--they are great dogs, had one for 13 years. I now have a standard poodle that plays with a "Westie" named Frosty (ironically mine was named Snowie). They are great family dogs and they don't shed.

PS: The Westie on that can has an elaborate grooming--like you would for a show dog but not all Westies need to be groomed so elaborately, they are still cute.

Just make sure you are up to their personality! While a Westie may look cute and fluffy, they are very much so NOT a cute and fluffy dog personality wise.

I have to disagree of the terrier breeds they are one of the most family-oriented. I had one for 13 years that was a great dog, my now dog has played with them, no problem. Here is an excerpt from www.dogbreedinfo.com anyone can go there and research more;

West Highland White Terriers are described in the standard as being "possessed of no small amount of self-esteem with a varminty appearance." This game and hardy little Terrier is easy to train. They are fairly friendly toward strangers and get along well with behaved children. Westies may snap when irritated, but are not as willful as many of the other Terrier breeds. They are lively and extremely self-assured toward other dogs. Westies usually do not pick fights with other dogs, although some males are combative with other males. They may chase a cat for fun, but usually will not hurt it. Robust, friendly, cocky and spunky. Westies just love companionship. Despite its size, they make a very good watchdog. These little dogs are easy to travel with. The Westie likes to dig and bark

I agree that they are very sweet and happy little dogs.
But when people base what breed they want to get off of looks, they often get something they didn't bargin for. If they wanted a pretty white fluffy dog to carry around 24/7....a Westie wouldn't fit the bill.

Actually, Westies are one of my favorite terrier breeds.

I agree with that Blackrose, there is no way you are going to carry them around or put them in a purse

Its great you have found out what breed of dog it is. but you shouldnt just run out to buy one. You need to find a good breeder. But FIRST you need to larn about the breed and find out if it is right for you. Please dont just get a dog becuase it is cute. Westies need grooming, every couple months (I would belive, owning poodles before it was about 6 weeks and then a new grooming by a pro) Like some one else said that dog on the commercial is grommed VERY well and they dont just magically look like that.

As fo finding one. Find a breeder. Who does proper health tests on this breed of dog. or go look at a westie breed spcific rescue or petfinder.
