Need help

When my family and I went on vacation last year, we had someone who has a very stern voice dogsit and ever since then our dog has been peeing on the floor when we leave. That is only when we leave. I am not sure how to correct this problem. It has become overwhelming. Now when we leave we keep him in the large bathroom so that he does not pee all over the house. I really need help. I have tried everything you name it but I am willing to try anything. Any suggestions?
Thank you for help.
Tired of Pee!!

Start crate training the dog.

Please explain, we have crated in the past. Do you mean put him the crate when we are gone.

Not sure why the stern voice would affect your dog in that way ? I mean I could see maybe upsetting your dog while he/she was around but later?

Anyway I would crate train the dog again like already mentioned or just always keep on tile while you are away. Good Luck.

Yes, when you are not around to supervise the dog, put it into the crate that way he won't go everywhere and dogs by nature don't want to make a mess of their "den" area which is why the crate only needs to be big enough for him to stand up, turn around and lay down. Also take him out for a potty break before you leave and when you return.

Re: Need help

Putting your dog in the crate when you leave may help. If it's a wire crate, also place a blanket over at least half the crate. Dogs often feel more secure when the crate is partially covered. Some dogs are soothed with soft music as well. Your dog sitter must have scared your dog, so he may associate your leaving with the arrival of this "evil" person. You might want to initiate the crate by doing practice runs, where you're only gone for 5-10 minutes. Keep departures very calm, no drawn-out good byes, just matter of fact. Make it a ritual, and say the same thing each time you leave (i.e., be good now, I'll be back), then calmly leave. Upon returning, don't go immediately to the crate; go about your business for a couple of minutes, then walk over the the crate, open the gate, and walk away.

Good luck to you!
