Orange County Ca is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: How important is kennel cough vaccination

How do you become aware that those animals are not vaccinated?

I'd like to know so I can keep mine away.

Why do you think our animals live to 19? The BBC reports that Dingos live 3 to 7 (max) years in the wild and on average, thats average, 14 in capativity. I'll readily admit that wild dingos suffer violent deaths but that alone does not account for their short life span.
Everyone who does not vacinate is piggybacking on the backs of those who do vaccinate.

Re: How important is kennel cough vaccination

I get all of mine the Bordatella vaccination for several reasons:

1) I foster rescued dogs. The rescue recommends it. I never bring a dog until it has been totally checked out by the vet but just in case....

2) I do take them to the groomer regulalry and as someone said earlier, it is a good idea if they will be arounf unknoen animals.

3) Just in case I need to have them boarded but it has been forever since I have had to do that.

4) My vet actually recommends it.

we don't vaccinate our children past a certain age and that is sufficient....so why should our animals be vaccinated over and over.....there are studies indicating that that may be the reason for alot of the behaviors w/ the dogs (aggression, phobias, etc....) and they are also beginning to think that this is the same reason behind autism in children....over-vaccination....

i don't do titers w/ mine, i do vaccinate every 3 yrs, as the titers are not accepted for licensing here (at least it wasn't the last i knew).....and i honestly believe that a good healthy immune system beats out the vaccines any day...and mostly this is acquired by the exposure to certain diseases

Re: How important is kennel cough vaccination

That's my issue. It seems like there is a lack of responsiblity in the veterinary industry regarding vaccinations. I want my dog to be healthy and that doesn't seem to be the exact motivator for giving so many vaccinations. Jackson puked several times for a month after his one vaccination. If I knew they adjusted the amt of vaccine based on the dogs weight I might be more inclined to do this without worrying. But like someone else said, people don't get vaccinated that frequently. Why would the veternary industry be that much further behind in knowledge/technology? I first read about the issue of vaccinosis on this website http://www.leerburg.com/vaccinosis.htm and thought it was pretty alarming since there is no middle ground. You either have to except the vaccination that the vets administer or for go them all together.

Re: How important is kennel cough vaccination

I think doing titers is a fair and responsible thing to do but I am not sure if boarding places will accept a titer over vaccination records....At this point my dog is vaccinated as needed.

I had a cat, Alice, who got vaccination-induced sarcoma. Granted it is more common in cats than dogs but is was a horrible way for her to go....

I am more concerned of my dogs coming in contact with something at a vet's office then anywhere else - might not want to go there then

I think there's a lot of things going on with dingos, but since you brought it up, can you please tell me how many die from diseases (that could be "prevented" with a vax) VS starvation, being killed by humans or other animals, etc.? I think comparing them to dogs is like apples and oranges *in a way* - we have some power to control our dogs immune system and health by controlling what we put in them, on them, and surround them with. With my dogs I rather aim for a strong, healthy immune system that's routinely exposed to different things VS worrying about what vaxxes they are going to need at the next vet app.

I think you need to do more homework about vaccinations before you make statements as such..... and what you will find is that even the pharmaceutical companies are saying that the vaccinations last way longer than 365 days..... they have gone to the every three year schedule but even that is probably a bit often......

I suggest doing some reading before you just blindly vaccinate your dog.... vets make a ton of money off of vaccinations.... whats interesting is that my vet does exactly what I do.... for his own animals ..... and does the yearly thing for everyone else that doesn't request a thrice yearly schedule or longer....

to me that is telling.
