do puppies have earwax?

i want to clean my dog's ears but then i was searching stuff about it online and it just talked about ear infestations so now i am paranoid. i checked out my dog's ear and it looks like he has ear wax at the back...but am i wrong?

Yes, dogs do have a gunky sort of wax - typically brown. The majority of dogs don't have pricked ears that allow easier air flow and circulation, so anaerobic bacteria build up and wax needs to be kept under control. You'll want to stop by your local pet shop to pickup a dog specific ear cleaning solution (or make your own, there are several different recipes).

Here's the Blue Powder

16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.

Could also be mites, do you have cats? They have stuff at the vet that will help clean them out and be able to tell if he does have mites. Good luck

If you are not sure if it is wax, mites or something else I would suggest taking the dog to the vet and perhaps getting an alcohol free cleaner thru the vet--they can also show you how to properly clean ears. Also, an antibiotic may be in order....
