Re: How to stop dog from biting?

Ok that first link is about puppy biting, and that's not the same as the kind of biting you are referring to. All puppies bite, it's called teething...haha. The first link also mentions using the "instant muzzle", which I totally disagree with.

As dog owners, we can prevent dog bites by being responsible. By socializing, training and following leash laws and making sure our dogs aren't roaming the streets free from the day we get our dogs would drastically drop these numbers. We also need to leave the breeding of dogs to those who really know what they are doing, who don't just throw two dogs together, but research and try and find the best two dogs, with solid temperments, do genetic testing and prove their dogs are worthy of breeding before doing so.

We can also learn what to do should we be threatened or attacked by a dog. To avoid eye contact, stand tall and cross our arms in front of us. Not to run or scream. I can see how someone could fall apart if they were attacked, but really, losing your cool and panicing will only make things worse. If a dog brings a person to the ground, they need to cover and protect their face, and curl up into the fetal position, giving the dog the least amount of flesh to get at. Also doing this will likely stop the dog sooner. Keeping still on the ground the dog will believe it has won, and won't continue to attack something it believes it has already conquered.

Also, most dog bites recorded are from unaltered males. So spaying and neutering our pets is another good choice to make.
