When we first got Wrinkles, I posted two pictures of him, and got guesses of bloodhound, coonhound, rhodesian ridgeback, or viszla. I read in another thread it's good to consider attitude and behavior as well as looks. I'm trying to train and work with Wrinkles and encourage his instinctive behaviors as much as possible, so the more I know about his breed, the better!

This is a pretty good picture of him. Disregard my SO's foot
He's undoubtedly a hound something, he's got the undeniable howl that you can hear for blocks, and a nose that knows no boundaries. Typically when he goes outside, he goes out, nose to the ground. He loves to chase squirrels, and sometimes our cat. Outside during playtime, he digs himself a very shallow trench about 5'x6', pretty much just removing grass and weeds, and throws himself in it, face first, and rolls around. He absolutely LOVES this. He'll also just dig holes sometimes, for the heck of it, then run away.
His main game is fetch. We didn't even have to teach him it. If we throw a toy, he goes and gets it, brings it back, and either drops it, or stares at us to take it. He loves plush squeaky toys. He's not much a chewer.
Occasionally on walks, he's run into dead animals in the road, and stops completely and tenses and straightens out. I don't know what a pointer looks like, but it almost seems as though he's pointing it out. It's kinda cool. We give him a "good boy" and continue, and he's happy.
So, whatever he is, what games would be good for him other than fetch? Is there some sort of scent that I can put around the yard for him to 'sniff out' toys? We tried hiding toys for him, but we can't get them hid fast enough. He finds them instantly, and the yard isn't that big.
