Question pugs anyone???

Hi everyone! i was just wondering if anyone has/ has ever had a pug? I am thinking of getting one and I have been researching them, but I like to hear recommendations first hand?

If you have had one or do have one, what do you like/dislike? Would you recommend them as a pet? Will they be OK in a small house without other pets and only one owner (maybe 2 in the near future). How are they to housebreak? (my biggest concern what with moving into a new house and all and I hear pugs can be very hard to housebreak...) Personality? Anything you want to share with me about your experiences, good or bad!

I have always had very LARGE dogs (Great danes mainly) but I cannot take them with me, theyw ill have to stay with my family. So, I have plenty of dog experience, just not with small dogs!

I know pugs are known to have many health problems, so don't worry about informing me of that, I am fully aware of the risks.

THANKS FOR ANYTHING!!!

I've never owned a pug, but the majority of the ones I've met through work have been dolls. Very sweet and affectionate.

The downsides: They shed quite a bit. The snort and snore a lot. Eye problems and injuries are common. You have to be careful in hot weather because of their pushed in faces. The Pekingese rescue warned me when I adopted my guy that heat indexes over 75 were dangerous for Brachycephalic breeds.

Have to reinforce on the shedding. The one that I knew shed more than any dog I have ever known and he was brushed regularly. But, I just loved his expression. Virginia

Try contacting a pug rescue. They can give you lots of information and help you to decide if a pug will fit into your lifestyle.

Hi, I have a pug and he is wonderful! Housebreaking wasn't all that bad, it just takes consistancy.

The main thing is to research your breeders thouroughly and DON'T buy a dog from a BYB or petstore! Here is the National Breed Club, http://www.pugs.org/
Which is a valueble resource on health and breeders. Be sure your pug is HEALTH TESTED not just vet checked. Look for OFA results on the parents for hips, elbows, knees, heart, and thyroid.

Also, if you are worried about housebreaking, I highly reccommend getting a rescue. If you go to the rescue section of the link I provided, I'm sure you can find a wonderful dog young or old.
