Unhappy My Yorkie is pooping in the crate out of nowhere. Help!!

Okay, I have two almost 6-month-old yorkies. One is 10.6 lb and the other is 8 lb. I got them when they were only 6 1/2 weeks and it was a hard time crate training them. I was finally successful, but not too trusting. They never pooped in the house or the crate. They did have a few pee accidents in the crate.

Since day 3 of having them, they slept through the night and not one accident (believe it or not). Their pee accidents in the crate only occured during the day.

For some reason, for the past two weeks, they decided to get up all hours of the night and somehow got on a schedule of pooping around 1am. That is not an issue, as long as they would bark I would let them out.

Now, they are not barking at ALL to go out and they are pooping the crate. We seperated them last weekend to figure out which one it was and we now know it is just one of them.

I spoke to a dog behaviorist who suggested putting them back together because of anxiety issues of being apart. I explained that the only reason we seperated them in the first place is to figure out which one it was and so we wouldn't have two dogs to clean up in the morning. We put them back together and they did bark to go out at 1am and they went, but last night they didn't bark and the one dog (we are assuming) pooped in the crate again.

I feed them 1/4 cup of food in the morning around 7am and I feed them 1/4 cup of food at 5pm. I have changed NOTHING. They were on the same schedule they have always been on since Day 1 of having them. The last two weeks we have even tried taking them out before bed to urge them to go, but nothing happens.

We are at our wits end here. Any suggestions are welcome!!

Metabolisms change with age and that means the potty schedule will change. If you're feeding dry kibble I suggest you soak it in warm water for about 10 minutes before feeding time. That will shorten the poop schedule by several hours and hopefully, they will go before bedtime.
