What I need and what I don't?

Tiggadyrue, he is soooo cute!!! :-)
I would love to buy X-Pen but we just don't have as much space in the house I want him to have( furniture and all), so I am going to go for baby gates, that way he can stay in a whole room( or two) in the beginning :-) I think this is going to work better for us. When he is a little bit older he is going to be alowed in the other rooms of course :-)

Hi All,
I am almost ready for the big day, but I still have couple of questions. I hope somebody can give me advice.
- I am looking to buy a handheld vacuum cleaner, so far the most I have tested do not do a good job on the pet hair. Any ideas what to get?
- I am looking at these pet-warming-pads and heart-beating-toys do these work for the puppy not to feel scared the first night or it's just another trick to spend some more on your pet?

My breeder sent me home with some old sweatshirts that she had put in with the litter mates so my little one would have a easier time with the transition. They stank horribly, but worked like a charm! Cheap and comforting!

http://www.snugglepuppie.com worked great for us for the first few weeks while puppy transitioned. I didn't know about these for my other dog and she did fine too. So it's helpful but not a neccessity! Cheaper on ebay or other sites (you can froogle them).

Also, I don't use a handheld vac., I just vacuum a lot with my Dyson. I'd imagine that if Dyson or Shark makes a handheld, it would work good.

I'm here with a question again! :-)
I discussed ( trough e-mail) with the breeder couple of things, that I read in the booklet she sent me and she mentioned that she does not recommend a tick and flea collar.
I will discuss further with her that when we are picking up the puppy as well with the vet, but since I remember some of you here said the same thing and I wanted to ask for your opinion. Now, why is that? I remember with my first dog this was well recommended and he never had fleas and maybe just a dozen ticks for 10 years.
I have a 2 year old girl and 5 year old boy and I am concerned how I am supposed to leave the dog gong outside with no protection at all.
I would prefer to prevent the problem, then treat it afterwards, but since so many people I asked are against it, can somebody explain to me what is the reason the collars are not well liked by you?
