| Is this a purebred dog? I have a completely irrelevant question. My mom's considering adopting a long-haired chihuahua from the local shelter. This pupper was in the same enclosure as mom's potential dog. At 7 months (so they said--I'm unfamiliar with the breed), he's noticeably larger than "Mom's dog," who is two years. My question is just out of curiosity, as I think this guy's adorable no matter what.
Is that dog a purebred chihuahua? He just looks so much less chihuahualike than the one my mom is considering. |

| Re: Is this a purebred dog? Looks chi to me. They were aparently a little larger in the past. Breeders seem to be making toy breeds into so called 'tea cup' much to the detriment of some breeds. |

| Re: Is this a purebred dog? The breed standards haven't changed for size in Chihs, Yorkies or Poms in many years. It's just a fad that BYBs are breeding for tinier and tinier.
I think he looks like a poorly bred Chih. Black and tan is a pretty common color pattern. |

| Re: Is this a purebred dog? There are over 50 colours/patterns accepted for chiuahua, he looks great but does not look like show chi. |

| Re: Is this a purebred dog? When I was younger my bought purchased a AKC registered Chihuahua that looked similar to that. The owners sold him because one of his ears were floppy and he couldn't be a show dog. |

| Re: Is this a purebred dog? Don't know about the long haired bit, but that looks identical to a pure bred Chiwawa I recently saw at a friends house. Granted this is no where near a professional opinion, I am 100% certain the owner would never lie about such a thing so chances are it's entirely possible that it's pure bred. Again, just my opinion based on very loose facts, take it however you like. |
