When i first got my pup at 8 weeks old we made a great fuss of the crate and praised her everytime she went in. On the first night she fell asleep in her crate just before we went to bed, so we turned out the lights and left her when she woke in the night and cried i went to let her out the go to the toliet then put her back in the crate and i went back to bed she then cried for ages and i wasnt sure if she needed the toliet again so i went down and she did! she got my praise then i ignored her and she sat and cried when i put her in her crate I made the mistake of opening the crate and she climbed on to my lap and went to sleep i then put her in the crate and she slept untill she needed to go toilet again.
The routine is: She falls asleep in the crate about 10.30 we go to bed at 11.00 she wakes at 12.30 sh i go and let her out for toliet and then sit with her by the crate she climbs on me goes to sleep in about 5-10 mins i put her back in her crate and she will sleep unill 2.30ish then i go and do th same she then wakes up same time as we get up and we let her out tho go toliet and play.
This seems like the easy way but am i spoiling her i never play with her i just let her out for a wee etc then get her to sleep on my lap then go to bed. i know everyone will yell at me but i think it works.
It would probably be easier on you and her in the long run if you just put her in and if she cries ignore it. It really won't last long. It sounds like she's already taking to the crate really well anyway...
Nobody is going to yell at you...LOL. But I do think your dog has you well trained. There is really no reason that she should have to "go" at 12:30, that soon after going to bed. Do you let her out right before you go to bed? How old is she now?
I agree. It sounds like she has YOU trained. As hard as it is, yYou will have to ignore the crying and in time it will stop. She should not have to go out again at 12:30. When she goes out at 10:30, make sure you watch her go and she should be fine for several hours. Eventually she will last the night. But don't give in and let her sleep on your lap as hard as it might be. Good luck!
When I first got Cinn, he did the same thing. I just swore that I had adopted a small child instead of a puppy! LOL I felt like I did when the kids were young. But now, I take him out one last time around 10 and he's good to go until about 645am. We've come a long way!!!
When was the last time she was vet checked? Although this does sound like a 'I am training you' type thing, you might want to have her checked all the same to ensure there is not a medical problem. One of my girls did this and it turned out she actually had a medical condition and I was unaware of as she had no apparent symptoms. I don't mean to alarm you but just to be on the safe side. Have you noticed an increase in her water intake? Does she drink water just before going to bed? How old is she now and how long has this been going on? Again, there is a good chance this is manipulative behavior but you might just wanta have her checked, just to be sure.
