Guess on Yorkie's final size.

My mom has a beautiful Yorkie puppy that is now 18 weeks old and 6lbs. She loves this dog VERY much, and he is JUST a pet (he is neutered!). She is looking to buy him a carrier, and wants to get the smallest one possible (she just had shoulder surgery and needs it to be as small as she can). She is trying to figure out how big he may end up. When do Yorkies usually stop growing? How much weight can she expect him to gain between now and then? Again, she is just curious, and wants a guess for a carrier, this will not effect how much she loves him etc. Thanks!

Here is a picture of him at 8wks (did I mention he has VERY large ears )

He is cute, and I love his ears!

You may want to consider the "backpack" style carrier - it'll make the weight more easier to handle overall, and it would keep weight pretty evenly distributed.

I'd expect him to be around 10 lbs, give or take very little.

Any idea of how big the parents are? If he's that much at 4 months old, I'd give him 10-12 lbs when grown (IMO a little on the big side for yorkies - am I right?)

I had a small soft-sided carrier for my rex cats (biggest one 7 lbs) but I would guess they can hold about 10 lbs without going to the next size.

I had to get a new hard-sided carrier for my ocicat as he will be about 12 lbs when grown - the small carrier is fine now, but had to go up one size

Thank you. His parents were 7 and 9lbs, so that was of course our first guess in a weight range, but I know genetics can be tricky, and he could be taken after a great great grandparent somewhere.

Yes he is going to be a big Yorkie (bigger then the standard allows), but thats just fine!
