Exclamation Caught humping my other dog... help!

This might sound absolutely crazy, but I don't know the answer to this. I caught my 6 mnth puppy mount my 3 mnth puppy! I quickly stopped him, but he went at it again, and again and again no matter how many times I interfered... until I finally seperated them. Yes, I know they are young... but I've been told puppy mills (ew!) breed PUPPIES. So is it possible for my puppies this age to breed? This is NOT what I want. I need to make sure that my baby won't be popping out babies herself. So in a nut shell, my question is.... can puppy's that age actually inpregnant?

Your female is probably still too young to have even come into heat yet, so I wouldn't worry TOO much. He might be humping for sexual reasons but dogs also hump for dominance. Our neutered male will still sometimes hump our friend's spayed female for dominance.

They can, but unless your 3 month old puppy is in season, there's nothing to worry about.

Humping is a status thing for dogs and it's fairly normal for puppies to hump each other.

Lastly, please don't use that text color, it's utterly illegible.

Yeh, my 6 yr old Butch still humps and he's been fixed for ages. It happens at the dog park all the time and the majority of them are fixed...it happens to male on male all the time!

I do hope that you are going to be neutering both of your dogs when they are old enough. It is the responsible thing to do so you don't have any unwanted babies. Good luck.

Re: Caught humping my other dog... help!

well firstly get them fixed so that this doesnt become a problem in the future secondly, i work at a dog kennel where they have grooming, training, daycare, and boarding. I supervise the unit 3 dogs (the largest are the hardest playing of the 3 groups) and this is somthing that happens almost all day. most of it just comes down to a dominance thing. the best thing you can do for it is teach your dog the "off" command. when you catch them doing it make them stop and say "(name) off!" and soon enough you wont even need to do it physically, you can just use the command and they will know.
