Crate toys

Hi everyone - I have a 10 week old Vizsla puppy and I am looking for some good toys to leave in his crate while he is home alone. I worried about leaving something that he can chew and choke on. Any suggestions?

Also, how long did it take your dog to get used to being home alone? My little guy threw a fit this morning when he was left in the crate. Unfortunately, my husband and I have to work and the best we can do is a dog walker.

Any tips?

Thanks!

licks and wiggles!

Re: Crate toys

Get some kong toys, especially the kind you can put peanut butter or treats in. Some of the other kong toys are great for chewing.

I can't help you with the home alone part because I'm home most of the time.

Re: Crate toys

i owuld recommend a harder chew toy. when i leave soft ones in with rosie she destroys them and i have come home to a crate covered in toy fuzz and had to pull a squeaker out of her mouth...

the kong is good with a little bit of peanut butter, she goes nuts over it.

Re: Crate toys

Until you know how hard a chewer your pup is, I wouldn't trust anything in the crate with him but a couple of kongs stuffed with kibble and/or treats. My dog can chew through anything so we don't leave her unattended with anything but Kongs. I wouldn't even give your dog the blue puppy version of Kongs - these are pretty soft and can come apart for a determined chewer. So nylabones, raw hide, bullies, real bones of any kind, rope toys, plastic balls, stuffed toys, etc. etc. -- all are out unless you can be there to supervise your dog. Sorry to sound paranoid but I've seen my dog demolish toys that were supposed to be dog-proof (ha!) and at the advice of my vet, we don't give her these things, especially when she's alone.
