taking me outside when not potty time

so, i was very proud that my pup now goes to the door when he has to potty.

but now the problem is, he figured out that when he goes to the door, he gets to go outside without questions. and i always give him a treat to potty outside. so he wants to go out, when i know its not time, like he just went 15 minutes ago.

but i dont want to make a mistake and not take him out, if he really does have to potty.

how do i tell the diff and/or correct this?

ahhh my pup was starting to do this. There has to be a difference between the outside times. If you take her outside, and she doesn't go potty, don't treat her and immediatly come back inside. When she does go potty outside, treat her and come back inside. If you want to play with her outside, wait 15 minutes or so, and then go outside for a walk and play time, so she knows the difference.

Yeah, ours did that too LOL. He actually still sits by the door quite a bit - he loves going outside. If we had just been out recently and knew he shouldn't need to go again so soon, we just ignored him. Plus he will really let us know if he *has* to go - come find us, sit and stare at us, sometimes give a little whiny growl, and when we get up he runs to the door. Then again, he has an iron bladder and doesn't drink a lot of water.

yeah i only treat him if he actually goes. i try and distract him w a chew toy, to see how soon he returns to the door. still makes me nervous though (dont like pee on carpet etc)
