| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! Puppies have small bladders. Rule of thumb for maximum time between pee breaks for a pup is one hour for every month in age plus an additional hour. Restricting water from dusk to dawn will help a little. But with a two month old pup you should expect to get up and let him out every 3 hrs. This is one thing that people have to consider when getting a pup, this and about a dozen other things that will take lots of time and alter your schedule. |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! I have the same problem with my labby puppy. I posted in training a similar question, but his problem isn't that he has to go, it's that he doesn't like to be alone. I slept in the living room last night and he slept all night, dh got the bed all to himself, but I actually slept all night for the first time in 2 months |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! how old is the puppy?
and you didnt post it, but I'm assuming he's getting up to pee?
Yup, small bladder.
Took my puppy almost 2 months to SLEEP through the night.
..now only if he would sleep past 6am.. |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! ha ha, yea puppy, almost 8 weeks, small bladder is part of it,
but he also has problems sleeping alone, if he sleeps on my bed he is fine.
ide be fine with him having to wee in the night,
but he has bursts of energy that last for a good 45 minutes after,
he his growling biting and playing while im holding my head up only waking when he bites my nose because i seem to not be paying attention. |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! I guess you arent crate training him then?
That would solve the problem.
With my pup, I also woke the puppy up to take him outside instead of the other way around. Then I stretched out the time between wakings. Didnt take long until he was sleeping through the night in his crate without having to go out. (hes about 6 months old now, sheltie) |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! I wouldn't say that crate training would solve the problem. My lab is 5 months old, has been in a crate since 8 weeks at night and when he was alone, still needs to get up and won't sleep through the night in his crate. Crate training works for most dogs, but it isn't a guarantee. |

It will solve the problem of his pup licking his face, wanting to jump on the bed and play, etc.
take pup out of crate...walk outside....do not allow play. Let them go, and then put them right back in the crate. Theyll get the point. |

| Re: My puppy WONT SLEEP! thanks! I am crate training, unfortunately he goes in his crate either way.
and if i wake him up / take him out, when i come back he is high energy all over again.
blah, he actually woke me up last night, wouldnt go back to sleep,
so i put him on my bed because he kept wining,
then he slept the rest of the night, no potty breaks. |
