just not a breakfast dog?

In the morning I put a cup and a half of food down for Ozzy. He only eats a way little bit of it. But at night, he will eat the full amount I put down and lick his bowl clean. He eats every 12 hours (about 6 am and 6 pm).

Could it be he is just not a morning eater? I worry that he is hungry during the day!

Dogs are pretty smart. I think if he were hungry all day, he'd figure out pretty quickly that the food in the morning tastes just as good and eat it. It you really want him to eat more in the AM you could split his food up more, giving him less in the PM and the extra in the AM. Or give him less overall, as long as he is not underweight. Are you giving him what it says on the packaging?

Re: just not a breakfast dog?

I tried feeding twice a day with my sheltie. She quit eating her breakfast when she was about a year old or so. Once a week or so I give her a scrambled egg for breakfast and she eats that, but her food she will eat at night.

My last sheltie didn't like breakfast. I worried because during the hot summer he would only eat half his dinner also and leave some. He wasn't starving

Re: just not a breakfast dog?

My adult dogs are fed once a day...evening. They get a morning treat before I leave for the day, fed when I get home and then a nite nite treat (small) at bed time. I don't think any of them are starving, although Daja acts like it...she in hales her food. Butch is picky at times (but not so much since Daja came along) and Roxxy eats hers like a lady.

Yours may NOT be a breakfast dog.

Thanks everyone

I'll stop worrying about it... but as you can tell I'm a nervous nelly by nature lol!

If you all can, check out my post on the general about him being lazy (another thing that I'm worried about).

I better get all my neurosis out before I have kids lol

You're funny Just to warn you though...when you have kids, you'll still have neurosis (sp?) --just different ones.
