Unhappy Poor car-sick puppy!

I've been taking my 9 wk puppy for short rides to get him used to it. Within the 1st 2 - 3 minutes of the ride he gets sick. Is there a general timeframe in which most puppies get used to the car? I've been doing this for about three days now and it never fails. We go someplace close by, stop for about 15 - 20 minutes and then head home. Today he got sick in both directions . I usually wait until about 2 hours after he's eaten a meal to go.

My sheltie gets car sick. If were going for long road trips we give him some dramamine as prescribed by his doctor. For the short trips we just leave a window open for him, it really helps. You may want to try driving with the windows down and the air conditioner off, if you haven't yet. Some dogs grow out of it some don't. You may want to talk to your vet about travling options for any long road trips you might take with your pup.

Yay. We drove 160 miles for Christmas at my in-laws and my sicko puppy made it the whole way without being sick!

Ginger is an excellent motion sickness remedy. Don't give any food or water within an hour of taking a car trip and give the dog a few ginger snaps to ward off motion sickness. Just make sure they have real ginger in them. Or, get ginger capsules and give those.

Also, being confined in a crate or with a seatbelt and harness help. This should be done anyway for your dog's safety.
