I see that they can be mischievous if left up to their own devices. I work from 7-5. I don't have my own house, but plan on purchasing a home soon. It won't be out in the wilderness where a coonhound would I guess be more in his element, but I would be sure to take it out with me and exercise.
I was hoping if someone has any advice to please share; or has tried to raise one in a neighborhood before. I understand they can be loud and nocturnal. I just wonder if I'd be doing a Coonhound an injustice if he wasn't able to roam free all day long. I wonder if raising him as a pup indoors with a half-acre backyard to play in would suffice his curiosity.
Any advice. Thanks! |
well my neighbor has a blue tick and he says he has three major issues...
1. the howling..she howls at random noises all the time and that has earned bob several noise complaints to the cops...
2. he can't let her in the house because she's very destructive if left to her own devices even after hours of exercise...
3. she is really sensitive. you use the wrong tone with her and she gets standoffish and sometimes aggressive..
I think that any hunting dog would probably be a pretty high drive sort of dog. of course they all have their own personalities but that would be a dog to watch out for around cats, around kids(because of the energy and size) and around new people..
not a dog to be slack with but not a dog to be real harsh with either...if I were you I would look up different training methods and have your training protocol at least somewhat defined before getting any dog, especially for a hunting breed.
