What breed is this dog?

His name is Reese. We have him up on Petfinder as a Min Pin mix, but I wasn't sure if that is what he is. He isn't a Min Pin, or at least not a pure bred since he's too large. I guess he can be a mix, but I was wondering if there were any breeds that look like Min Pins but are bigger?

He's a sweet boy, but was found as a stray and is VERY wary of humans. He likes to come up to people he knows and loves to give kisses and whine. I love him.

Re: What breed is this dog?

There are German Pinschers (that's the pinscher the Minpin was bred down from and one of a couple ancestors of the Dobe, IIRC), but they're not terribly common. He looks a LOT like a rott/whippet/rat terrier mix, except for the lack of white. That topline and long neck remind me of a sighthound and his head reminds me more of an RT than a minpin. Maybe Minpin/rat terrier?

Re: What breed is this dog?

He looks a lot like a Jagt Terrier, but they're so rare here in the states, that he's probably not...

He does have a white patch on his chest.

A Jagt Terrier? I can't find any information on that breed at all...

Re: What breed is this dog?

You don't see many of them outside of Germany. They're a larger working terrier breed. Here's is a grainy picture of one of them with a Daschund.

I couldn't find a lot of links mentioning them in english... here's a German page with another picture.

Re: What breed is this dog?

Looks like a badly bred Min Pin to me. I have see backyard bred min pins much much bigger then the standard.

Re: What breed is this dog?

I dont really see much Jagd Terrier in him, although there could be...I agree with the Min Pin/Rat terrier. There is a line of Rat Terriers out there (can think of the name off hand) that are bred to be bigger (they are used for hunting) so maybe its with one of them???

BTW Jagd Terriers arent as uncommon here in North America as you might think. Many boar and vermin hunters have them around. I've met a couple Jagds and they are definitly littler terrors! LOL Fantastic dogs but I do not recommend them for a pet home at all. The ones that I met were used for hunting. Sorry to get off topic...
