Recommended Reading?

Hi guys,
We are thinking and thinking about getting a dog, and we wanted to do some preliminary reading to prepare ourselves for the day when our pup finally comes home. We know that we are going to get a smaller breed, and hopefully something with a poodle mix (I'm a bit partial ), but we would like some recommended reading for the training bit. I - we all - hear about the dog whisperer, but, during some research (I've never seen the show, we don't have tv), I read that many people disagree with his approach because he is too dominating and physical...? Anyhow, I figure we can trust advice from the experienced experts! We'd love to hear what you all have to say! Thanks guys!

Pamela Dennison is amazing!! I don't know if you've noticed, but I have been spreading her advice like wildfire! We can't wait to bring our puppy home and begin building our relationship with her! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a dog training book.
