| Re: will neutering calm him down? ^ Gorgeous!
So I've tried to tap into the inner works of his mind and find the method to his madness. Overall, I think I'm on to something. I've been taking Rosco to this park since he was 7 weeks old..it's an open territory and I'm thinking that he was trying to over mark to make sure everyone knew it was his territory..which it isn't! So, as much as I miss the opportunity to socialize him, I've decided to stick to our own neighborhood and beyond for now, and things (touch wood) have really improved. I've been mixing it up everyday and avoiding taking the same route. And seeing how we're passing yard after yard with dogs in them, he seems to feel less territorial.
Also, I've been taking old dog #1 with us every so often and he seems to have slowed down a bit to allow her to keep up. They kinda slip into their own world together so.. We had an awesome walk today. I'm surprised old dog #1 could keep up with the pace but she hung in there. They're both out like lights now.
Dogstar, omg'sh that would have scared the bejeepers out of me!@ I'm glad he came right over to ya, lol. This weekend is Mayfest and they have the K9 people out there putting on shows. I'm going to try and pull one of them off to the side and find out how local they are before I contact petswest. |

| Re: will neutering calm him down? So, yesterday I bought one of these
Gentle leader harness' and HATED it! It did stop the pulling, but it kept adjusting the size itself. I bought the large and think I may have needed the medium. Dunno. I returned it today and went for the GL that goes around the mouth. Yeah, that's not gonna work. I took him out to give it a spin and he kept rolling around in the yard trying to get it off. I'll probably head back to Petsmart for like the 5th time this week and get the medium GL..arggh! |

| Re: will neutering calm him down? Is your dog ACD? If yes, it needs excessive excerise! I doubt that neutering him will help with his outburst energy. If you are concerned about biking with him then do you have a treadmill that you can use? It takes some practice for him to feel comfortable using it. |

| Re: will neutering calm him down? yes, he's an acd/aussie mix. I have no problem with excessive exercise, I do have a problem with him leading me around and stopping every ten feet to smell and/or pee, lol. That's why the neutering question. It's okay though- we're working on it! |

I would be serious trying it out with him. I'm sure you both are going to have a blast time. http://thcsda.org/
It can help you cut out alot on his excerise. |

| Sounds like you should have spent more time conditioning your dog to the tool. Click on the video titled "Conditioning an Emotional Response". |

| Re: will neutering calm him down? That video was really interesting. Needless to say I didn't have as much success. I opened the box, popped in the dvd and fitted him while watching it- then off we went! He was perfectly fine until we started walking, lol. Oh well, live and learn. I'm bookmarking that site by the way, thanks!
French Ring, I'm bookmarking your link as well! I definitely plan to do herding with him when he's a bit older.
I wound up getting the GL harness in a medium and so far it's great. |
